We always seem to have a lot more injuries than other clubs, and there are signs today that injuries are starting to mount.
Joey Barton – injured foot
News today that Joey Barton has been ruled out of Newcastle’s trip to Ipswich on Saturday.
The midfielder is out with some kind of foot problem, and will not be available for the Ipswich game.
Chris Hughton said:
“Joey will not figure. He has had a problem with his foot of late.”
“It is a bit of a hangover from a problem he had earlier in the season, but we hope to have him back in contention soon.”
Barton joins a rather worrying and growing injury list for the Magpies, which already includes Danny Simpson, Shola Ameobi, Jonas Gutierrez and Tamas Kadar.
And with Danny Guthrie getting himself ruled out because of his red card on Tuesday night at Peterborough, Chris will not have too many players to choose from at Portman Road.
But whoever gets in the starting lin-up Saturday need to produce, so we can get the 3 points we need.

Comment #1maybe that’s why he hasn’t been playing as well as he can, coz of a niggling foot problem
haven’t got much width have we, not that joey’s a winger, but that would the next area to address Mr H

Comment #2probably use it as an excuse for his poor peformances but to be honest i cant remember the last time he had a good game. i think they had it right on the legends when they said the only reason he has nt been dropped is coz of who he is and the fuss he’d cause. not to unsettle a steady ship mr H, could be a cloud with a silver lining this injury

Comment #3We still need minimum 3 more players, wide player, attacking midfielder and (I cannot believe I am still saying this after 2 years) cover for left back.
But I am not holding my breath.

Comment #6This will surely mean Ryan Taylor will go right back – a position where he performs half as well as at right midfield.
What do you think the formation will be? I think it will forced to
Geremi, Nolan, Smith, Lovenkrands,
Carroll, Ranger (sub for Harewood on the hour)
However, I know Hughton doesnt like playing two up front so I PRAY TO THE LORD butt doesnt play in a 5 man midfield

Comment #9Nimo – I think Zurab Khizanishvili is a central defender who can play right back.
Even Hughton is keeping everything crossed that Enrique does not get injured!!!!!!!

Comment #10Stuart79 – agree, cracks are more prominent and the wallpaper is peeling off by the sheet.
My only hope is that the renewed takeover shite is actually true and that thing will change dramatically as soon as Ashleys incompetence tribunal reveals its findings, if not, we are well and truly goosed!

Comment #11Well, the media are having a feast about injuries and the hope that we go into administration.
This was bound to happen as they cant pan us for the results but all the ammunition for shooting us in the foot has been supplied by our hated owner, one step forward and two back with this swine im afraid.
He seems determined to block our progress no matter what, probably unintentional but as Ed Harrison said, he is an Albatross around the clubs neck.

Comment #13The media have a great time winding us up about the imminent sale of the club … injury list … KK trial … who said what about who etc etc … and nothing we say here will change that.
However the team seem to be concentrating on the football for a change … which is great.
Now all we need is a win on Saturday.
I do not care for the 4 – 5 – 1 formation, and I think the standard of the performances would improve with 4 – 4 – 2.
We have the (uninjured) players to do it so let’s give it a go.
However … if we are getting ugly wins with the one up front then so be it … if all else fails keep the ugly wins coming …

Comment #17The injury problems we have arent as bad as every1 is making out. we hav barton simpson and jonas bc in the next week/fortnight if hughton is right the only long term is bambi but we havent suffered gr8tly without him.
personally id like to c this team;
—————Harper—————-
S.taylor–Zurab–Collo–Enrique
R.taylor–Nolan–Smudge–Mcloven
———–Ranger–Carrol————-
but i get the feelin hughton will start with 4411 just to grind them down before bringing another striker to go for the win.
in which case;
————–Harper———–
R.taylor–S.Taylor–Collo–Enrique
————Butt–Smudge————-
Geremi———Nolan———Mcloven
——————Carrol——————
which is probably smarter with the lack of depth we are suffering at the mo.
Zurab and harewood will get debuts this weekend whether they start or get subbed in hughton will want them blooded into the team with match practice so if they are needed desperately then they will b ready. mayb see lua lua if hughton is willing to give him a chance as i can see him becoming a regular if he learns to pass more.

Comment #20Big dave thats a fair point but from what ive seen so far hughton hasnt had a problem dropping players underperforming except barton. i dont think thas going to be a problem this season i see the bairns getting a fair shot. and with barton jonas injured guthrie suspended its going to be interesting to see who hughton picks as his wide men and substitute widemen for this match

Lua Lua doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near the first team after his “effort” on Tuesday night!
Play Lover on the left, Zurab at RB and play 2 up top. If we go negative against a team that havn’t won a game yet this season then its pathetic. Barton being injured, IMO, is no great shakes. He’s been playing crap anyways, he’s been played out of position and hasn’t looked fit aswell as the fact that CM is probably one of our most over sibscribed positions in the squad anyway. Start with Smudge and Nolan in the centre!

Comment #22I’ve been preaching this since the day we got relegated.
In a way, it got us relegated, the persistent injuries.
We needed 6 new players before September, we got 4 as of now.
But we need 4 more if possible.

Comment #23@nimo: Yes, he is. He got two yellows on Tuesday so he’s serving a one match ban atm. I swear the refs are all anti-toon lately.
Harps
Zurab—-S.Tayl—-Colo—-Enrique
Mc.Loven–Nolan–Smudge–McLoven
——Carroll——–Ranger
Subs: Krul, R.Tayl, Harewood, Simpson(?), LuaLua
Assuming Simpson is fit, if not we’ll have to dig into our reserves and youngsters (Tozer, maybe?).

Comment #28Jus’ imagine this we get the creative midfielder and winger we after in Per Cijan Skjelbred and Erik Huseklepp. That would make my season, aswell as Nicky Butt not playing a game.
But looking at selection for Saturday, we are in the $hit, I think Hughton will be forced to put a 4-4-2 out as he doesn’t want to risk all his midfielders does he? I think it might look like this:
____________Harper
Kissinghiswilly_Taylor__Colo__Enrique
R Taylor__Nolan__Smudge__Lovenkrands
________Ranger___Carroll

That’s the team I would go for. Let’s have some width with Peter L and Ryan T – do NOT want to see Smith, Nolan AND Butt in the same midfield -and if Geremi were to play as well I think this would definitely qualify as our slowest midfield ever- in fact midfield is the right word cos they wouldn’t move up or down much!

Comment #33ive got no problem with the 451 formation the problem i have is we dont have the right players to pull it off effectively we havent got fast pacy wingers or any1 creative in the middle to help out the lone ranger (ha thas quite catchy :D) up front. defensively we are f9 but thats the problem we r too defensive which is quite ironic lol just getting in another winger and creative mid such as Skjelbred and huseklepp would make a massive difference to our squad.

Won’t just press stirring $hite in there of cauldron of Newcastle United hate. I hate the press, well the london press as they hate us and basically blame us for everything. ex; The Sun will blame us Newcastle Fans from WW2 to Robert Mugabe. They just know how to pull our strings and have made us the most hated football club alongside Man U/City in England 🙁

Lets be honest, were not going into administration. Ashley would just knock it off the sale price and get out of town.
Personally I think Moat is at the sign and purchase stage of the deal and is just waiting for the conclusion of the tribunal to finalise.
