News today that both our Argentine Internationals – Coloccini and Gutierrez have been called up by their country for the important World Cup qualifying games in a couple of weeks time.
Gutierrez – missed last 5 Newcastle games
The World Cup qualifying games are against Peru and Uruguay on October 10th and 13th, and could decide if Argentina qualifies for the finals in South Africa next summer.
Gutierrez has now missed five games with a hamstring problem picked up in the Carling Cup victory over Huddersfield on August 26th, but he has been back in training last week at Benton.
Gutierrez is expected to return to action within the next week, either in Wednesday’s home game against QPR or Saturday’s visit of Bristol City.
And Hughton has even said it may be an advantage to get him match fit by playing for Argentina – so Newcastle could even benefit in that way.
But of course, as we found out with Michael Owen, he can go and play for his country and return injured.
Michael always seemed more concerned about playing for England than Newcastle, who were paying his ridiculously high wages.
So the club has some experience in these matters – and we just have to hope both players return uninjured from their exploits in South America.
Comments welcome.

Comment #5you have to trust the honesty of your players, lets face it if they don’t want to play, its better they sit on the bench, than be a liability on the pitch.

Comment #8…no, what’s more hilarious is the fact that some NUFC fans constantly rip into our own players even when we are playing well and winning. Pathetic.

Watch the above video, and you will see why Gutierrez is rated so highly by Maradona. Look at ALL that Gutierrez does for the team, and you’ll see what an amazing player he really is. He may not score 10 goals a season or get 10 assists a season BUT he does so much for the team that he is an automatic choice for Maradona and I fully agree with that.
He starts almost ALL of our attacks in matches, Creates so many of our attacking plays, Links up the play beautifully, tracks back and defends doggedly, is an absolute WORKHORSE, Runs at and past players with the ball and has pace to scare defenders, so much so that they double up on him leaving space for the other attackers in our team!

Comment #12Kadar in the U20 World Cup should be in Egypt, but the invocation of the great NUFC not let go. To the best of his position in the Hungarian National Team.

Comment #13We have to accept that Argentina want their all best players available now because they’re in danger to lose their seat in World cup.
I hope Jonas can play his part to help Argentina win the place for World Cup qualify not just for himself, for the club but I want to see them in World Cup too.

Comment #14Any idea when Jonas is due back for us?
I agree, it’s wrong to rip our players especially when they’re in good form. I reckon Colo has been better than Jose as of late and he’s been being praised left right and centre
