Andy, i replied on the previous thread mate, i'll c+p it here.
----------------------------
Andynufc- again, if you’re browsing, if not i’ll copy and paste it onto the next thread aswell!

I’ve only really looked at journalism at university. The mackems uni does a journalism course im pretty sure, as does Strathclyde in Glasgow. (they do journalism & creative writing). West of Scotland uni does a specific Sports Journalism course, the first in scotland to do so apparently.

If you have already graduated/aren’t already at or plan on going to university, then my only advice would be to start sending articles written to websites, local papers, magazines etc. I’ve basically been told that if i dont want to return to uni and pursue a journalism related degree, then its a case of working my way from the bottom upwards. When applying to journalism courses at universities, i was asked to submit a portfolio of articles i’d written myself, and articles i’ve had published. The folio had to include a mock interview, and other little bits and pieces like that. I have however also been told that to find a career in journalism, the best way to go is with an English literature/Media degree for example, not necessarily a degree in Journalism itself. Take a browse on google, im sure you’ll find plenty but if there’s owt else you want to know and its something i’ve been told/expericned myself then i’ll happily answer like. As i said, i’m pretty much in the same boat as you mate!

No one seems to have picked up that young Alex Nicholson was playing for Wales under 17s tonight in the Uefa under 17 championships. An academy lad playing at right back. NUFC.COM had it but the official club site didn't.

Also, is money a major issue? I ask because many people who are interested in the Journalism/PR indutry become hesitant once they find out the general rate of pay...which to be honest, isn't the best.

Summer

You're exactly right. At the end of the day it's not only good practise, but it's something to put on your CV that will make you stand out from other candidates. That would demonstrate not only experience in sports journalism, but a passion for sport in general. Employers will always prefer those who have AT LEAST a fundamental knowledge of the industry they work in.

Regarding Smith's England call, i was thinking something similar just yesterday. However, i think Capello will see if he can maintain such form in the top tier before picking up the telephone.

AndyNUFC

I work in the media industry, maybe i could help.

The media industry is good and bad. The good side is you don't actually need any/many qualifications to actually work within this particular industry (Unlike Law, I.T, Medicine, Accounts etc). The bad side is that because of the lack of qualificaitons needed the industry is incredibly saturated and most organisations nowadays are cutting jobs, rather than offering them. News publications have been hit hard by the recession with several having to axe their hard copy versions and put all their eggs in the online basket.

If you are looking for a qualification to make you stand out amongst the many others you will be competing against, why not look into a journalism, marketing or media studies degree or course? There are several about and they generally aren't that difficult to acquire/enrole in.
