Newcastle could be stretched tomorrow night, especially in defense as we lost some players to injury at Ipswich.
Coloccini - has looked class this season
Danny Simpson and now Ryan Taylor remain fitness doubts ahead of Wednesday’s next crucial game with Queens Park Rangers.
Simpson jarred his ankle during the 3-1 win over Plymouth Argyle and the injury is taking longer to clear up than the medical staff would have liked, and he will not start full training until today.
Ryan Taylor, who had one of his best games on Saturday, with a superb goal and two assists, was forced off with a calf problem late in the game.
Chris Hughton told Newcastle United TV this morning:
“Danny Simpson will train today for the first time but we’ll have to assess how he is before deciding what part he plays.”
“Ryan Taylor’s got a bit of a calf problem and is a doubt also.”
But that doesn’t tell us the whole story for tomorrow night, because Coloccini was doubtful after Saturday’s game, and Gutierrez is also due back, after returning to training over a week now.
If Jonas is fit he could come in for Ryan Taylor, and if Coloccini is fit the back four could remain the same as on Saturday, and it looked very well organized and solid.
So it’s really how the Argentine pair are, which will determine if we are really struggling, at least in defense, for tomorrow night.
If Danny is fit and Coloccini isn’t, then the very impressive Zurab Khizanishvili could partner Steven Taylor (the rock) in central defense, with Simpson at right back.
That would be more than a decent defense, and of course, as on Saturday a clean sheet will go a long way to getting Newcastle another 3 points against the London club.
Danny Guthrie will return from his one match suspension, following his sending off against Peterborough, and hopefully Geremi will have recovered form his illness, to give Chris more options.
And many more wins and we’re going to be in football heaven – and it’s such a great feeling right now, after all the travails of last season!
