Newcastle vs QPR – Match Preview

nufc-crest qpr

Shola Ameobi, Joey Barton, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Taylor will all miss the game tonight through injury.

But Danny Simpson is fit again, as is Argentine Jonas Gutierrez and Danny Guthrie is available again after serving his one game ban.

Danny Simpson being available again is very timely since he can presumably slot straight in at right back and to make up a back four of Simpson, Taylor S. Khizanishvili and Enrique – which looks fairly solid.

As we’ve mentioned earlier this morning Chris Hughton will have some choice as to whom he plays in several positions,

In midfield he has Butt, Nolan, Guthrie, Geremi, Smith, Lovenkrands and Gutierrez to choose from, and up front he has Harewood, Carroll and Ranger.

We do expect Chris to put out an attacking team tonight that will go after QPR from the start, and we expect two to be playing up front.

This is the side we’d like to see start tonight

Harper
Simpson Taylor S. Khizanishvili Enrique
Nolan Smith (c) Butt Gutierrez
Carroll Ranger
Subs: Krul Tozer Geremi Vuckic Harewood Lovenkrands Guthrie

There could be some changes there with both Harewood and Lovenkrands perhaps getting a start – but the bench tonight ia quite strong.

For QPR, Fritz Hall has returned to training after missing the last four games with a groin injury but the former Southampton defender will not be risked tonight.

Matt Connolly may return in defense after a virus but veteran midfielder Gareth Ainsworth and striker Angelo Balanta are still ruled out by hamstring and groin problems respectively.

And former Newcastle center-back Peter Ramage will likely continue on the bench, with Mikele Leigertwood in at right back.

QPR are in 12th place in the league with 13 points from 8 games, and they hammered Barnsley 5-2 at home on Saturday, alst time out. The London side have 7 points away from home, with two wins, so they may mount a challenge tonight.

But with the lads available we have we must we expected to be able to get all 3 points, and go 5 points clear of the second  placed side – WBA, who of course have now lost their last 2 league games.

They lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday and 3-1 last night at lowly Barnsley, who were beaten 5-2 at home by QPR on Saturday.

So WBA have cracked a little as have Middlesbrough, who have dropped 5 points in their last two games.

That’s even more reason why the team had to remain strong and keep winning these games, and not get too far ahead of  themselves.

This is a home game Newcastle will be expected to win, but we’ve seen in the past, that none of these games are particularly easy.

But we have to hope that  Newcastle will find what is needed to secure all 3 points come 9:45 pm tonight.

Let’s know what you think the team should be tonight.

Howay The Lads!!

QPR aren’t going to roll over for anybody – least of all us. We aren’t going to be able to get the goals we had against Ipswich because they have a significantly better defence, but that hasn’t stopped us before.

If anything, it should be a damn good game.

I wouldnt start with Jonas. He’s just come back from a hamstring so we need to be careful and give hime some time or else it will just go again.

Off topic, my dad had a suspected stroke earlier and im really down about it so i could do with a massive win to cheer me up a little. Howay the lads, do it for me dad!

I can see a tight 1st half but if we can keep a clean sheet I think we can push on and finish the game off 2nd half, especially with the crackin bench!

I would like to see this team.

    Harper
    Simpson, S Taylor, Zurab, Enrique
    Jonas, Guthrie, Smith, Nolan
    Ranger, Harewood.

Bring on Carrol and loven if not going well at half time.

Jonas should start but not play the full 90. Give the boy a rest.

And bring on Butt for a laugh if needs be.

All the best to your old fella Toonsy.

I would like to see Jonas on the right wing also, but of course he is always played on the left. either that or we need a spanish speaking RB lol.
Think Harewood looks big and strong, and will crack off a brace tonight.
    3-1 to the Toon.
    Howay the lads.

    Toonsy-

All the best to your old man!! 3 points for the old fella tonite!!

    ShrewsMag-

Once again m8- I love that diamond formation. I play the same midfield formation with GREAT result with my Newcastle team on FIFA09. Of course, that team is completely ridiculous. Check it:

    —————-Sebastien Frey—————

    ———Bassong–Agger–Albiol———–
    Vargas——————————–Jansen

    ——————-Gerrard——————–

    —Skjelbred——————–David Silva

    ——————-Modric———————

    —————-Agbonlahor——————-

*Gabby actually became the highest rated striker in the game. Too bad, it’s only just that- a game 🙁

Lets get us this win for TOONSYS dad. I’m really hoping Ranger scores for us tonight hes starting to become my favourite player, although he hasn’t done anything significant. Exciting player. Heres the team i would like us to field:-

    ———————–Krul————————-
    –Simpson–Taylor–Kizanuhvili–Enrique–
    ———————–Butt————————-
    –Nolan—————————–Gutierrez–
    ———————-Smith————————
    ———-Ranger————Harewood———-

Subs: Gutierrez off for Mcloven 60.00
    Vuckic on for Smith 75.00+
    Carrol on for Harewood 70.00-80.00

Also i want to see how Oba performs for Wolfsburg tonight… An exciting performance i bet

Ranger looks a bit goal shy to me,not got the composure yet but a goal will change that and will give him a boost…not ready for the big time just yet though so I would start with Big Marlon and Carrol and see how they get on.

    SJT,
Ranger was prolific for the reserves, but i think he’s makin’ sure of the the team effort for now…But maybe once he gets one in off his ass or somethin’, he could get a bag full!..

    Agree Punk Skunk
Ranger scored for fun in the reserves still not starting line up material just yet, needs eased in gently unless injuries dictate otherwise,we should let Harewood start tonight for first 70 mins and see how he gets on.
