The stars are starting to line up for Newcastle United, as both Middlesbrough, WBA and Preston were beaten last night in the Championship.
Barnsley , who were bottom of the league, beat WBA 3-1 at home, for an amazing result, as WBA seem to be in a big slump.
And Middlesbrough lost at home to the impressive Leicester City 1-0, and this leaves Newcastle still 2 points clear at the top of the league with a home game tonight against QPR.
And Ipswich Town may be on the way back.
Roy Keane’s team were 3-1 up away at Sheffield United after 70 minutes, but an injury time goal gave the Blades a 3-3 draw. But a much improved performance from the Tractor Boys from Saturday’s game against the Magpies, will give Ipswich fans new hope.
And Cardiff took Derby County apart 6-1 at home, with Newcastle-born Michael Chopra hitting 4 goals, and just for good measure Preston North End were beaten 2-1 at home by Reading – yet another good result for the Magpies!
And Plymouth finally got a win by beating Peterborough 2-1 away. Those two teams are now tied at the bottom of the league with Ipswich Town, on 5 points.
OK – now we must get all 3 points tonight against QPR – and then we’ll be 5 points clear at the top of the league.
Not only that, but Newcastle would also be 7 points clear of 3rd place Preston, with a superior goal difference and would be in good shape for automatic promotion (top two automatically promoted), if we can keep up our good form.
Newcastle must now take this golden opportunity to pull away from the pack tonight, and the lads must show they are mentally strong enough to keep getting those wins, through hell and high water.
It’s one game at a time, and we must not allow any slip-ups – like we did so many times last season!
Howay The Lads!!
