Harewood, Lovenkrands Start Up Front – Enrique Injured

nufc-crest Bristol City _FC.svg

Manager of the Month Chris Hughton has chosen to change the front two by starting Marlon Harewood, as expected, but paired with Peter Lovenkrands, with Nile Ranger and Andy Carroll both dropping down to the bench.

Jose Enrique is out with a hamstring pull and Ryan Taylor (fit again?), comes in at left back.

Marlon took just eight minutes to score his first goal for the club following his second-half introduction in Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with QPR at St.James’ Park, and looks to be in form.

We have to think that Chris thinks there are goals in these two players, and Peter Lovenkrands must be looking sharp in training.

Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez also returns to the starting line-up with Nicky Butt making way. The defense is unchanged and the midfield is Guthrie, Smith, Nolan and Jonas.

We can win this game to put a good spin on what has been an awful week for the club.

With Enrique injured, we hope that will spur the club to get in another specialist left back in to compete with Jose.

The game between Preston and WBA ended in a 0-0 draw earlier today, and that’s a good result for Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Lovenkrands shouldnt be a starter imo. He is not match fit.

Lovenkrands needs a goal…if he wasn’t fit I don’t think Houghton would be playing him with both Caroll and Ranger fit.

    Wouldn’t make sense.
Good to see Butt on the Bench…prefer to see him in the knackers yard being turned into glue.

Bit surprised at this selection, I would have thought that form would have meant automatic starts for Ranger and Carroll. I don’t have a problem with Harewood starting for one of them but not both. Rest of the team looks good to me anything but a good win will be a shock, only problem is that it yet another smaller clubs biggest game of the season so it won’t be a walkover.

Looks a good mix of players to me with bags of pace in the side.
Butt deserves to be replaced, why oh why are these players not forced to prove their fitness in the reserves following injury, this was always the way but it seems as if its beneath certain players to do this.
My take on it is that they are paid by the club and should do as their told and play where and when the club dictates.

Real chance today to get a bit of space between us and WBA!! Looking like its going to finish 0-0!!

We need to hit them hard and fast today, take the wind out of them early while the players are all in awe of St James with 40k fans screaming for Newcastle!!!! Strange to play Marlon and Loven upfront….must be giving the babies a rest!!

    Us to win 3-0

At last we have a fit midfield and the manager realises that Butt cannot pass except backwards. Seems like Houghton is seeking experience up front.

Its bad Nolan lost out. I thought he was going to win let me hope am wrong.
For Enrique he is injury prone so he was bound to get injuried.
