All Games Will Be Tough This Season – Guthrie

Danny Guthrie believes every game this season will have its own challenges, and that the sides lower down the league could give Newcastle just as much trouble as those nearer the top of the league.

Danny Guthrie – all games will be tough

Our next game is at Nottingham Forest, who of course were just a great team under Brian Clough and twice won the European Cup, so it’s little wonder the game will be televised live in the UK.

Danny talked about the teams in the Championship:

“We played a few of the top teams early on and got good results but the teams that have been near the bottom end of the league or in mid-table have been just as hard,”

“The Championship teams who have been in this division for a few years and are used to it, they’re very difficult teams. The teams that are used to it, they’ve been the more difficult games I’d say.”

“I think we’re a big scalp to these teams. We’re going to get that all season, everyone wants to beat us, especially when they come to our stadium.”

“The games seem to be a bit more difficult. We haven’t lost at home but we’ve had a couple of draws.”

“We didn’t lose until we went to Blackpool, which brought everybody down a peg or two. But we bounced back and haven’t lost since. The five wins in a row (in August and September) really helped our confidence and I think that’s why we’re top of the league at the minute.”

And Danny believes Newcastle are doing well because of the way the lads are working for each other, in addition to the three loan signings, which all seem to be good ones for the club.

And he’s happy that at this stage of the season Newcastle have a 3 point cushion at the top of the league, although it could well have been 7 points if we had won our last 2 home games.

Danny continued:

“I think at the start of the season we’d have been happy with a three-point cushion,” “We could have extended that against Bristol City but the most important thing was not to get beaten.”

“The key has just been the togetherness of the squad and the quality. Mainly it’s the hard work and togetherness of everyone.”

“The loan signings have made a big difference,” “They’ve all played recently and done really well. Danny Simpson’s done great at right-back and (Zurab) Khizanishvili looks a good player.”

“Marlon’s the newest and you can see what he brings. He’s a different option. He’s big, strong, he’s got good pace and he can score goals.”

“He brings us something different and I think that’s important. Marlon gives you that option in behind. I think that’s what we needed.”

It’s going to be a tough games on Saturday, because you know that Forest are going to be up for the game.

But that’s they way it is for Newcast;le this season, which is why the lads have to continue to show the great desire to win these games, no matter what.

The very last thing we want now is for the team to trail off, after such a good start to the season.

Every single league game is as important as any other, and 3 points has to be the aim.

We need to be top of the league by the end of the year, and then with any luck we’ll be able to strengthen the squad somehow.

Comments welcome.

Wise and prophetic words from Danny and there’s no doubt that is going to be the case – especially if we have no progress on the sale!

    Why I say that?

    1. Because Ashley’ll surely behave true to type and sell Jose and Smudger if the offers come in from Sunderland and Bolton.. or whoever.

    2. He’ll not lay out the cash to make the loan players permanent and they’ll be snapped up by a club with more ambition.

    3. The fans’ll become restless again and will surely kick off an anti Ashley campaign of booing etc which in turn will pee the players off ala last season!

    4. Propmotion’ll not happen and as a result, we’ll be stuck with him for yet another season!

Is there no respite from this man and his madness?
