Gutierrez Just One Game Away From Realizing His Dream

Jonas Gutierrez has a dream of playing in the World Cup and Argentina are just one game away from qualifying.

Jonas Gutierrez – vital game on Wednesday

After last Wednesday’s dramatic injury time win over Peru, 2-1 they now only have to draw in this Wednesday’s final qualifying game at Uruguay to qualify for the finals next summer in South Africa.

Diego Maradona’s team dramatically got all 3 points last Saturday in Buenos Aries, as Peru equalized to make it 1-1 in the 90th minute, but then veteran striker Martin Palermo scored his very first international goal in 10 years, in the third minute of stoppage time – to get the win for the Argentines.

As would be expected the goal sparked mass celebrations in the stadium as Maradona dived head-first on the ground as a big dark cloud was lifted from over the Argentine team.

We know Gutierrez really wants to be in the World Cup next summer as he told the official site before he left for Argentina:

“For me it would be a dream come true to play in the World Cup,”

“Ever since I started playing football and watching my hero Maradona I have dreamt of making it to the finals.”

“Now we have a chance to make that happen and everything depends on these two games – we must win them both.”

So they have their first win and as it now turns out they only have to draw at Montevideo’s Centenario Stadium on Wednesday evening against Uruguay, to qualify.

Of course whether they can do that is up in the air, and certainly Uruguay are the in-form team, as the Argentine struggled against bottom of the table Peru, and at home too.

If Argentina lose to Uruguay, and Ecuador win against 3rd top of the table Chile, which is highly unlikely, then Argentina will miss out on a playoff place.

Let’s hope Argentina can win this game, because if they don’t qualify they will be a massive loss  in South Africa next year, not to mention we could have two of our players, Gutierrez and Coloccini playing there next summer if they do qualify.

Argentina’s win against Peru shouldn’t represent that much. Maradona is a completely incompetent coach and even made a ridiculous celebration after seeing his once 3penalty-loser Palermo score an irregular goal.

Argentina could have already been out of the World Cup. But, to say the truth, I really doubt they can beat Uruguay with this current disorganized team.

And Gutierrez shouldn’t be so happy. If they qualify and Maradona remains as coach for 2010 I’m sure Argentina will be the laughing stock of the tournament. They have such a weak team, FFS, you can’t be so deluded.

LOL. A completely unbiased opinion there, Brazilian. We know how much you love Argentina and the little fella over there! 🙂

It’s gotta say somethin’ about ‘cheat of dog’ if he can’t get argentina thru that ‘group of ease’ that brazil & them always sail thru…

Worky, believe me I’m not being unfair. Maradona is just clueless as manager. His team has no tatics, no organization whatsoever. Just notice how badly Messi play for them.

I’m sure Uruguay will beat them. The pressure on Centenario will be mounting on Maradona and his players, and with such a team that sturggled to beat Peru at home, I can see they finishing fifth or even don’t making it with an Ecuador’s win over Chile.

Really, Argentina is showing poor and for me hopeless performances. And to prove they didn’t deserve not even to win Peru, here’s an interesting picture, have a look at Palermo: 🙂

Maradona is a terrible coach by the looks of things. His squad selections are mental and they’ve looked complete rubbish as far as these qualifiers go. Fair enough they beat Peru but it was lucky like..and along with that, i reckon Peru were denied a pen seconds after argentina got their winner.
