Coloccini Likely To Be Fit For Saturday’s Game

It seems that Chris Hughton’s biggest worry ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest is the fitness of Fabricio Coloccini.

Coloccini – could be fit for Saturday

The Argentine International has missed the last two games with a groin strain, but he will resume training tomorrow, and with no adverse reactions could well be in the side on Saturday, partnering Steven Taylor in the heart of Newcastle’s defense.

And as we’ve said before we have to hope that Zurab Khizanishvili, Geremi and Jonás Gutiérrez return from international duty without any injuries, given our squad is still ridiculously small for such an important season for the club.

Chris Hughton, has performed miracles so far this season talked about the injuries today:

“We have Joey (Barton) and Shola (Ameobi) out longer term, but with Coloccini we are hopeful he will train on Thursday.”

“He will be touch and go but we are hopeful he will be involved on Saturday.”:

“Everyone else is okay. Jose Enrique is fine – he is back training and will play at Forest. Danny Simpson has not trained so much lately, but he trained on Wednesday.”

“Danny Guthrie missed a day last week after he got a kick, but he is fine, while Nile Ranger has had a virus and missed England duty.”

On Saturday we start a run of 5 league games in 21 days before our next two week break

Sat 17	17:20	A	Nottingham Forest
Tue 20	19:45	A	Scunthorpe United
Sat 24	15:00	H	Doncaster Rovers
Mon 2	19:45	A	Sheffield United
Sat 7	15:00	H	Peterborough United

We have a 16 day break and then our next game is away at Preston North End on 23rd November,  which will be a big test for the lads.

It seems the season is divided up into these groups of games, and this allows Chris and the coaching staff to prepare well for each of the games.

And we’re sure they will have done their homework on the 5 teams we will meet next, and we’re sure they will go into every game trying to get all 3 points – starting on Saturday at Nottingham Forest.

Howay The Lads!!

Appart from a couple of ‘iffy’ games I think Colo has looked class this season. He has either adapted to English football, or found his level. I do hope its the first one.

I agree with G, other than one or two shaky moments Colo has been solid all season, something i honestly never thought i would say. I was one of his biggest critics last season, i thought he was positionally bad, looked nervous on the ball and to be fair was a soft touch. Don’t know if its the dip in quality in the league or Colo simply settling in finally but to say he hasn’t improved greatly since last season is just insane.

I would deffo give Colo another run in the prem (should we get promoted) in a toon top. My gut instinct tells me things would be very different up there a second time round.
