It looks like Newcastle will wait until the very last moment on Saturday before deciding whether center-backs Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini are fit enough to play at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Steven Taylor hugs team-mate Colo
Local lad Taylor is an ever-present in the league so far this season, but has a slight hamstring injury he picked up in training earlier this week.
It’s a race against time for the Greenwich born 23 year-old, to make the 5:20 pm kick off clash at the City Ground, in what promises to be a tough game.
Newcastle manager Hughton told Newcastle United TV:
“We’ll give both Tayls and Colo all the time they need to make Saturday’s game.”
“We’re refusing to rule them out and we hope they can play a part.”
Good news on the International front in that both Zurab Khizanishvili and Jonas Gutierrez came through last night uninjured.
Zurab came through unscathed as Gergia’s were hammered 6-2 in Bulgaria, and of course Jonas was a hero as Argentina beat Uruguay 1-0 in Montivideo, to qualify for the finals in South Africa next summer.
19 year-old Hungarian defender Tamas Kadar was withdrawn from the reserve-team defeat at Rotherham on Tuesday night, as a precaution.
Tamas is fit for the trip to the East Midlands, and he could well be called on to make his first start of the season, if both regular center-backs cannot make it.
If he plays, it could be a big opportunity for the up and coming youngster.
