Lads Have Chance To Atone Against Scunthorpe

Chris Hughton has admitted that Newcastle’s performance on Saturday was well below par against Nottingham Forest.

Chris Hughton – team was below par on Saturday – we agree!

Chris still feels that with their second half display the lads could have picked up at least a point on Saturday night:

“All you do is prepare the team as normal and hope you do it in the right way, which we’re always confident of.”

“But as soon as that whistle goes it’s up to the 22 players on the football pitch and they were better than us, for whatever reason.”

“We didn’t get close enough to them at times. They kept the ball better than we did and I think that our ball retention had to be better. It certainly was better second half. It was very much a game of two halves.”

“The unfortunate thing for us is that they scored in the period they had – and we didn’t.”

Newcastle led a charmed life in the first half and it was good that Steve Harper was awake in the Newcastle goal. He was about the only one who was in that first half.

Steve made some good saves to keep us in the game, but then they scored just before half time, and that was a crucial goal.

We were hoping the lads could remain level as they started to wake up a little as the first half progressed, but their display was completely unacceptable.

And you could see that Chris and Colin were worried looking men on the sidelines, as Newcastle were completely outplayed and outfought.

Chris continued:

“What we have to be able to do in this league is mix our game up. If I look at the players we have, when you have someone who is as good in the air as Andy Carroll is you know you have to play to some players’ strengths.”

“I see us as a side who wants to pass it through midfield, which we were able to in that second period.”

The good thing is the lads have a chance tomorrow night at Scunthorpe to get back on the winning track,  and surely they cannot be as bad as they were on Saturday night – that’s true isn’t it? 😀

Scunny had a good result against Sheff Utd at the weekend, so I am more than a little concerned now. Also, I can’t help but wonder if the other teams in the fizzy pop have ‘sussed’ us now? We looked like a very poor side at the weekend, let’s hope it was just a blip and we can get 3 points against a team that clearly aint affraid of the big fixtures.

Is there much shame getting beat off former European champions? ok they may be a mid table Fizzy pop team now but sadly somtimes once “big teams” and “entertainers” have to admit their time has passed.

The football all season has been mostly terrible apart from the away game at Ipswich….You need creative players to carve openings…The forest keeper had no saves to make in 94mins.

If we trundle on without adding a creative player added to the squad I think our promotion chances are pretty slim…the last 3 matches have been abysmal.

To clarify above, not out completely. I meant back to his coaching role!

I am not calling for Houghton’s head,he can only play what he has got…any player that had some degree of creative flair or pace has been now been sold.

When you have a combined height of over 12ft in the box and no player capable of firing in a precision ball from the wing then you may as well tie the strikers boot laces together.

Toonsy no manager will work under this present regime/saga,so things will remain with CH in charge for a while yet.

I can’t see a manager coming in until a new regime is involved-no regime is coming in anytime soon,Mike has no intention of selling up.
