Nicky Butt Gets His Chance On Saturday

Alan Smith will miss his second game because of suspension on Saturday and that is not particularly good news for Newcastle.

Alan Smith – misses game through suspension on Saturday

But Alan plays in such an aggressive way and often his reputation goes before him,  and he will always pick up more than his fair share of bookings, unfortunately.

The booking last night at Glanford Park last night took him to five bookings, so he misses the vital game against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday – a game we must win to get back on track for the season.

Nicky Butt will come in for the game on Saturday, but talking on the loss of Smith, Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Losing any player is a major blow.” “But I think experience tells you if you worry too much about which players could get booked, you can’t pick the team you want to pick.”

“We’ve missed Alan Smith for one game already through suspension, and it’s something we have to cope with, and work around.”

This is a chance for Nicky Butt to come in and show he can still do the job. Certainly he’s experienced enough and can surely be a decent player in England’s second division.

We look to Nicky to come in and captain the side to a much needed victory – we need one very badly.

Now we need CH to realise that he should make Nolan the captain.

we need CH to play Kadar at centre back. Zurab has been awful in every game hes played CB, he played well against Ipswich but he played RB in that game.

why arent we looking for another CB on loan? i can remember someone on here saying we’ll miss colo if he got injured, most people laughed but losing him and taylor has been a massive blow.

saying that, zurab should be able to defend properly given that hes on loan from a prem club albeit big fat sams blackburn

This is why Chris Hughton can’t be manager. Last night was on the back of 3 winless games and anything other than a win against this Leauge 1 side was totally unacceptable. I cant understand how we are still joint 1st. I never though we would ever miss Shola but we do badly. Harwood just isnt a good enough replacement.

Nicky Butt is too slow. Experience aside he brings nothing to the team.

He gives free kicks away far too often, is just as likely as Smith to get booked and can’t bring anything going forward.

I know CH will probs play him, but I believe it is the wrong move, we have many different ways we can play the midfield and without Butt would be better.

    What is wrong with:

    R Taylor Guthrie Nolan Guiterrez

If we play Butt, you lose any creativity in the midfield if you left Gutherie/Taylor/Guiterrez out, and as for Nolan, you cant leave him out, hes the only one bloody scoring!

I think you’re a little hopeful on Nicky Butt. The Championship has been Fast & Furious so far this year Butt would be so far out of place against the better sides.

Experience counts for little as Geremi found out last night. Real Madrid, Boro, Chelsea & Cameroon.

Khizanishvili got the run around by Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup Last year so it doesnt hold much hope.

another problem we have is that we dont have any attacking coaches! however i do think as full time manager CH will be allowed to bring in some backroom staff (1 or 2 at most). having said this, CH is supposed to be a defensive coach, CC is also supposed to be a defensive coach, why arent they telling the defenders to adopt a no nonense approach like every other team in the division?

My God! I despair! I used to get up mid week (like many of us expats) at some ungodly hour of the morning mid week to watch the games and then stagger to work gladly ….giddy with pride…Now I am just ashamed….how sad is that…sigh!

Playing Butt anywhere is wrong but at home with his zero creativity will kill us again.

Ed you don’t half know how to spoil someones evening. The prospect of Nicky Butt playing on saturday is too horrible for words.
Again this will be radical to Chris Hughton but why not play Guthrie and Nolan in centre midfield. Their true positions. Ryan Taylor wide midfield in his true position. I know it is fantasy stuff but it might just work

I am not looking forward to Butt running (?) around SJP with his balls in a wheelbarrow and his brain in a glass jar! Start with Ranger, Lovenkrands, Jonas and anybody else who can run with and pass a ball!
