Big Chance For Nicky Butt On Saturday

Club captain Nicky Butt will return to the Newcastle United team for Saturday’s game with Doncaster Rovers.

Nicky Butt – will play on Saturday

Nicky missed the midweek defeat at Scunthorpe because of illness, but it would have been a surprise had he started that game.

The 34-year-old midfielder had to withdraw from the squad having felt sick earlier in the week.

But with holding midfielder Alan Smith now suspended for Saturday’s game, boss Chris Hughton will turn to Butt to fill in.

Chris said today:

“Unfortunately Nicky had to miss the Scunthorpe game because of illness,”

“But he’s fine now and he’ll be ok for Saturday.”

“Nicky’s experience is invaluable and, with Alan Smith missing, it’s a boost to have him back.”

Those are good words from Chris, but the truth is that Nicky has not played well so far this season, and Alan Smith is rightly keeping him out of the starting eleven.

But Saturday is a big chance for the club captain to come in and give a captain’s performance, when it’s most needed.

We need a win on Saturday – come hell or high water!

Slow news day or what. Didn’t we just have this depressing blog already !! I’m sure in the last 2 days not much has altered about Butt’s limitations.

Our biggest problem on Saturday is lack of central defenders and decent wingers, not Nicky Butt.

I agree with most of the comments we need central defenders , it has shown once there are injured we have no cover just makeshift central defenders & when you lose Alan Smith look at the cover ! what can one say

We certainly need left type of winger & on this season so far Lovenkrands is not the answer

to have one half of the chuckle brothers would be bad enough but to have the 2 is intolerable, they are just clueless, i suppose if he is happy with his 250k salary its obviously why the lump of elephants plop wants him. that’s the wonder of woollies, a truly 5 bob appointment.

Am going to my first match in years as I live down south this weekend. I can’t wait, although am slightly less enthused at the prospect of Nicky Butt playing, ohwell aslong as Ranger starts I don’t mind! Everyone’s thoughts on ‘expected’ starting line-ups?

    I would go with:
    R.Taylor Colo Simpson Enrique

    Guthrie Gutierrez

    Ranger Carroll

Incidentaly, is Coppinger still a Donny player? I rated him when he was in our kids team, although he never made the grade. Always a worry when a former player is against us.
