There’s an old adage that’s so very true – that good teams always find a way to win whatever happens in a game.
Kevin Nolan – he does it again!
And you have to hand it to Newcastle yesterday for somehow ending up with all 3 points, when things didn’t exactly go their way.
Once again the team was outplayed by a visiting team in the first 45 minutes, but then came back strongly in the second half – sound familiar?.
1-0 down at the interval it was Andy Carroll who put the side level with a tremendous goal after 68 minutes, but then Ryan Taylor handled and Doncaster had a penalty after 75 minutes.
But Newcastle were amazingly let off the hook when Doncaster captain Martin Woods hit the worst penalty anybody can – he didn’t even force the goalkeeper Steve Harper to make a save – he drove the ball wide of the post – completely unacceptable from a Doncaster viewpoint.
And then when Khizanishvili was surprisingly sent off after 85 minutes, for what we have no idea,Newcastle were reduced to 1o men and things looked bleak indeed with the Newcastle side still desperate for a home win.
But then on 92 minutes, after good work by Andy Carroll, it was Kevin Nolan who guided the ball home from 20 yards to send the almost 44,000 Geordie fans wild – and all 3 points.
How they did it we’ll never be quite sure, but the lads will need to start playing these games in the first half and hopefully we’ll very soon have Coloccini, Simpson and Steven Taylor back in the defensive ranks.
A great win by the lads yesterday, although we’re still not sure how they managed it!
