Mike Ashley, in all his wisdom, has decided that he is just too good for the club t0 sell Newcastle United after all.
Incompetent owner refuses to sell
Newcastle issued this statement:
=============
Newcastle United are delighted to announce that Chris Hughton has been named the permanent manager of the Club, his contract will run until the end of the 2010/11 season.
At the same time the Club has confirmed that it has been withdrawn from sale and is no longer on the market.
The Club had been trying to broker a deal with a number of prospective buyers in recent months however none of those deals came to fruition.
With regard to the possible sale of the Club to Barry Moat, that particular bid has now fallen through due to the cash price of £80M not being met.
In confirming the news, Mike Ashley stated that he is totally committed to the future success of Newcastle United (oh give me a break – please) and will be focusing on gaining promotion back to the Premier League. Mike will put a further £20M into the Club this week. Is that apology money to the fans?
Derek Llambias, Managing Director of Newcastle United, said:
We are delighted that Chris has accepted the post of full time manager. He has done a terrific job this season and we wish him every success for the rest of this season and beyond. He will continue to receive our full backing and support.”
Chris Hughton added:
“t is a very proud day for me to be named as the manager of this magnificent football club. I thank Mike and Derek for their support and will be doing everything in my power to get the Club back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
“Having the unequivocal backing of the players has helped me enormously and I would also like to thank Colin Calderwood, Paul Barron and the rest of the backroom staff who have never been anything but tremendously supportive to me this season.”
Whilst confirming these two matters, Newcastle United now aims to move forward on and off the pitch.
The Club aims to maximise its commercial revenues; this includes renegotiating its Club sponsor and kit deal, which expire at the end of this season, as well as welcoming offers for the stadium naming rights for next season.
=============
It’s really hard to know how you move forward when you have an owner like this still at the club. It is public rec0rd that he lies to the Newcastle fans – that’s when he decides to even speak to them.
He should be forcibly removed from the club he has brought into such disrepute and he is the worst owner ever to own a football club in England – fact!
This is a sad sad day for the famous Newcastle United club and notice there is nothing in this statement about putting the club up for resale in the summer.
Sorry – but I’m just not doing cartwheels over this incompetent and completely clueless owner staying on Tyneside. He’s an insult to Newcastle.
We’d be better off if Mickey Mouse was running the club.

Comment #82There are some really naive statements on here.
Firstly, any hope that Ashley will totally change from the proven liar and manipulative cheat that he’s been shown up as are daft. Surely the NUST must now campaign to the FA to get Ashley and Llambias removed under the ‘right and proper person’ rules? Surely?
And I think Lesh has already mentioned the obvious: £20m is NOT for players. As with the past FOUR windows, the club will sell and make profit, NOT spend and reinforce.
I’m in two minds. I was about to buy a plane ticket for a match in Feb – but I’m seriously wondering whether I can entertain the idea of giving this crook my money now.
I also doubt if we’ll see anything like the 40k+ gates after this announcement and the stupid, vindictive timing of this SJP renaming idea. A clear stab in the back from someone who’s obviously now out to dig back at the fans.
I don’t hope he dies (although I would raise a glass to the driver if a truck hit him) – but I’d love to see him had up for fraud and locked away.
Dark, dark days – and yes, I think it’s time for action – some of the ideas above are pretty good and I suggest we do it all via the NUST.

Comment #83Davis – this is NOT modern football. This is a proven crook being an unmitigated b****d. Not selling was news I was prepared for. The renaming thing is the terrifying statement that he’s out to p*ss us off and destroy what’s left of the soul of this club so he can get some money back and then leave us to wallow in the crud that he’s created.

Comment #84News of The World August 8th 2010:
“Ashley takes name off sale”
After failing to secure the £5 million asking price for the new name for St James’s Park, despite reducing the price from £10 million, Mike Ashley has decided that the name is no longer for sale. The ground will be named after himself and in the new season the sign “Black Heart Lane” will be erected on the stand. A club spokesman said there was never any truth in the rumour that it was going to be called “White A**e Lane” after the infamous streak by Mr. Derek Llambias.
(This is called “gallows humour” – or “if you didn’t laugh you’d cry”)

Comment #85Incidentally, does anyone else wonder what impact the renaming ‘stab’ will have on the players? Can you imagine what Taylor, Harps and even relative offcomers like Smith and Nolan will make of it? Hughton, even?
I’m just hoping that this is another decision which Ashley will pull a u-turn on.

Comment #86Well thats it for me lads, i’ll be going to the Peterbourgh game to see the imediate reaction then i’m never setting foot in that stadium again untill he goes.
I know i should still support my team and i still will, but i refuse to put another penny in the fat tw@ts pocket.
I couldnt care less how much cash it could generate for the the club if he re-names the stadium, its the final straw for me.
He should have named the east stand after SBR but didnt, should have backed up his promise of investing £20m a year but didnt, promised he would sell the club but didnt.
Im not angry, far from it, im heart broken. So upset that it has come to this, the death of a great club and a slur on the names of every great player/manager/coach/supporter that has ever graced the black and white.
May St James Park live on!

Comment #87Changes need to be made…so many that I think non of the supporters know where to start.
The club is well and truly damaged at every level and it is very sad to see.
The renaming of the Club has to be the worst bit of Newcastle news I have ever heard and should not go unchallenged.

Comment #88Dont the Ostrich like fans Know who is behind them? Cashley has crashed and mangled his train set, and you want to keep on playing as if nothing had happened. Its you who are supporting Cashley in his inept enterprise, it is your support that keeps him going.

Just to let you geordies now my future plans for this club are good and the 20m that i am investing this week is going to certain aspects however i have decided now to run newcastle united as a business and becuase of this fans when they buy a ticket they will not get a seat but they have to pay extra for that and everyone has to have a seat or they get kicked out, also i am improving the over popularity within the bar of the grouns by making evreyone who uses the bar to pya £5 as the ticket doesnt include going to the bar, another change is that of paying £1 to use the toilet.
The 20m tht i am investing is going towards a new board room which has black and bulletproff windows and the money will also be spent on giving the tea lady a nice tip she has deserved it.
Please tell me what you think of my ideas but remeber the cost of renovating newcastle = 20m
price of the new players = 100k at maximun
Mike ashley bankrupt = priceless
