We read the statement from Newcastle with dismay and disappointment last night, even though it was no big surprise.
Laurel and Hardy – continue with their mess at Newcastle
Steve Wraith, the editor of Players Inc fanzine, said the news that Ashley was staying would dismay most of the Toon Army and his statement is right on:
“I don’t think it’s come as any surprise to any Newcastle fans.” “I think Ashley has been trying to string the fans along. I don’t think he’s had any intention of selling the club.”
“I think it will come as a big disappointment to a lot of Newcastle United fans.” “Nobody trusts Mike Ashley. I think the Kevin Keegan court case proved that we can’t believe a word they say.
“I think because we don’t get told the truth is probably why we’re in the mess we’re in.” “We have just got to get on with it now – Mike Ashley’s in charge of the club, there’s nothing we can do about it.”
“Let’s just get on as best we can, live together in harmony and hope that Chris Hughton can pull off the impossible and get a team promoted without any money being spent on it.”
We read the fans want to boycott the club but believe us that will not work.
Mike could close all his Sports Direct shops in Newcastle and the surrounding areas and he wouldn’t feel any negative financial impact.
And not going to the games hits the club – and the players – so please let’s not do that.
The only thing that really worked last year were the peaceful demonstrations, as he realized his safety was in danger in Newcastle and said he’d sell the club and get out of Toon.
But like everything Mike does – he has not kept his word.
Of course he’s now had the club up for sale for 9 months without being successful – and maybe he’s tarnished the Newcastle name so much he cannot sell it now.
The Newcastle fans should let him know he’s hated in Newcastle – in case he had any doubts.
Yes we know that’s a strong word – but unfortunately after the Kevin Keegan affair – where he was seen to simply lie to the Geordie fans for public relations purposes – that is the truth.
He’s a disgrace to the famous Newcastle football club.
But we must keep supporting Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood and all the players – and one way we caqn keep doing that is supporting them at the games – both home and away.
In contrast to Ashley you couldn’t get a better or more honest man that Chris Hughton – and Colin isn’t far behind either.
Chris may not be the greatest manager in the word but his heart is with Newcastle, and we cannot ask for more than that!

They were canny veiled threats then Ed?……;)
Presumably, they were going to beat him to death with the peaceful ‘Ashley Out’ placards and youthful insistence?
I’m sick to the back teeth of the whole thing. Sick of reading about it, writing about it. I now know why you nearly packed in Ed. Fecking football clubs, who needs enemies…..

Comment #6I must agree if we had the fans owning the club we would have a deadly club on our hands…
I mean champions league material…
But i guess we all didn’t support the bid trying to do that, so well i guess it is all over…
However..
We are disappointed that we didn’t do that but now we know what it feels like to not have a sale and for MA to keep the club for the second time.
So when he next puts the club up for sale, well we could possibly learn from our mistakes and invest in our club..
And who knows we might be playing champions league…
Ive got the feeling that next time he puts the club on the market we will all give it a shot!

Comment #8i think some part of the blame lies with the fans who sed they were boycotting the matches. when did they do this. i know some people say they are loyal well being loyal and feeding a fat c*nt like that is not going to work you have to STOP going to matchs then he goes into dept which bank is going to give MA money when he is going to get done for fraud
