Latest Newcastle United Team News

sheffield united fc nufc-crest

We expect Steven Taylor to miss the game tonight – and it would be a bit of a surprise if Hughton risked the player for tonight’s game.

And we made a mistake (now corrected) when we left Ryan Taylor out of our expected team (as a sub)  in our match preview earlier today – so we replaced LuaLua with Ryan.

As a review, the team we expect Chris to play tonight is:

Simpson Coloccini Kadar Enrique
Guthrie Smith (c) Nolan Gutierrez
Ranger Carroll
Subs: Krul Tozer Geremi Butt Lovenkrands Harewood Taylor R

Unfortunately I have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon at 2pm today EDT –  about the Achilles tendon I snapped clean through back in August (ouch!).

That’s  7:00pm UK time, so I will not be able to get the official team out – so this can serve as the article for our readers who like to comment on the game as it proceeds.

Perhaps someone can stick the team up in the comments – when it’s announced – which is usually 30-45 minutes before KO time.

I thought the appointment was 2 hours earlier – but it wasn’t and I just got back home. If I’d known earlier it was that time I would have rearranged it. Oh well.

And finally German company Adidas have distanced themselves this afternoon, from speculation linking them with the naming rights for St James’ Park.

An Adidas spokesman said:

“Adidas can confirm that it has not been offered the naming rights to the stadium and would not wish to take the rights if they were offered.”

So another false story from the Sunday papers – and this spokesman must have been a different one to the one quoted on Sunday. 😀

But back to the real business, and let’s hope we can get the win tonight as we really need it.

After all it looks like the Blades have a weakened side out tonight, through injury, so it’s a great time to play them.

Howay The Lads!!

Some commercial experts have said that most companies aren’t going to be interested in renaming a stadium as they wont want to alienate a potential sales area.

Off the top of my head, one of these experts being interviewed by Sky said Ashley’s idea was “at best, fantasy bordering on dilusional”.

Hope it stays that way! SJP 4 EVA 😀

Off down to Bramall Lane in a couple of minutes. Got mi Pepsi Max mix and mi good luck kegs on.
No Taylor still. Hopefully Colo will be fit to avoid us having to play Simpson at CB and Ryan effin Taylor at RB.

3 points much needed tonight lads.

    Cant see that team winning.
Why is Guthrie on the wing when we have a proper winger in Lovenkrands and the two kids up front , you gotta be kidding, maybe in a year or so.

    Why is Butt playing?

Why are we effectively playing one up front?

Is it coincidence that since Ranger has been out of the side we’ve been playing sh1te?

There’s about as much pace in this team as a Douglas Barders XI

The guy has not learnt from last season. Ultra defensive team selection. I could understand it if we had players who could defend but we don’t. The game will either be heading towards a draw or defeat before mr no personality and charisma decides we better try and get if a goal
FGS I hope i am wrong and we nick three points. it has a look of a smash and grab side

Once again the master ful tactician choose to play one upfront. This allows the other teams to come onto us and build up confidence, crowd expectation etc. 4-4-2 with Ranger and Carrol up front would give them something to think about. 2-0 at half time is my prediction.

Oh and WTF is BUTT on the pitch for??
Oh and Smiffy to be booked in 1st 5 mins and then become ineffective due ot an impending red.

I know we have to repect sides but we are inviting sheff united to come and attack us and put us under pressure. But that is what we should be doing to them and get the home crowd on their backs Instead we will have them cheering on like its a cup final. it makes you wonder what sort of team he would field if we were playing Chelsea eight defenders and teo holding midfielders I bet

    Simpson, Kadar, Colo, Jose Enrique
    Taylor, Smith, Guti
    Ranger, Carrol

Nice attacking option – but completely alien to CH and Co

Arrrrrgh My eyes are bleeding ive just saw Nicky Butt on the team sheet.
People will defend him but just pay close attention to how many 30-60 yard balls he kicks to nowhere.

Another defensive formation Butt starting and no Ranger playing?…got to say I’m already getting a bad feeling about this. Sheffield may not be on the best run of form lately but theyve only lost once at home and that was to Cardiff..Im expecting a draw. Anyone got any links for game streams?
