Derek LLambias has come out today and said they want to ensure Newcastle get promoted but no transfer money is available in January.
Laurel and Hardy – in that order – now starring at Newcastle Playhouse
Note that even they are laughing – it’s so comical
However, if Chris comes along with some players he wants we’ll try to sign them – and yes you guessed it – this is the PR part of the statement – it’s not true but good for consumption by the Newcastle fans – because it’s what they want to hear.
If that seems all cock-eyed – please – it’s Derek LLambias – and he’ll sign a player if he’s around £1M.
And while it’s possible to sign a good player for that money – the great Sebastien Bassong, now starring at Tottenham, was just £500K from Metz, it’s very very unlikely.
And Derek has laso revealed this morning that he knows the current owner regime is unpopular on Tyneside – but when he keeps talking nonsense like he has today – that’s small wonder – tell the truth Derek – even if it’s not popular.
Llambias said this morning:
“I know we are unpopular and I know a lot of fans don’t like us (what?), but all we want to do is give the club the best possible chance to get back into the Premier League for next season.”
“That is in everybody’s interests and we would urge supporters to get behind the team.” “There is a lot of negativity surrounding the club and there has been for a long time.”
“But the most important thing is the team and helping that team get promoted.” “Promotion is by far and away the most important thing this season and we should all be focused on that goal.”
“When we have achieved that and this team is back in the right division we will focus our energy on making sure we have a team which can keep us there.”
We have Mike and Derek – who admit they have no experience running a football club, and that’s more then plain for everybody to see.
But sensible owners get people in who know the business. After all Manchester United, Aston Villa and Manchester City are owned by people who know very little about running football clubs, but they bring people in who can run it for them, and stay out of the way, and those 3 clubs are very successful, and that’s no coincidence.
But Mike refuses to do that – and that’s what makes him look dumb – and we use those words advisedly – but he continues to act dumb, and that hardly reflects well on his business acumen.
If he did that – and got rid of Derek LLambias, and kept in the background – but funded Newcastle – putting in £20M a year of his own money is good, and if it was run well – as a business – there would be other monies available too. After all Newcastle’s gate receipts must be up there in the top 5 clubs in the country.
Mike may even be able to turn around the disastrous situation he’s created at the Newcastle club.
But hey, we are becoming delusional now, and yes, some would say we are continuing to be delusional. 😀
