Is Leon Cort The £1M Player Hughton Wants To Buy?

We’ve been doing a little bit of Sherlock Holmes today, and we think maybe the player who will join Newcastle on a permanent basis in January is Leon Cort of Stoke City.

leon cort 123

Leon Cort – on his way to Tynesiode in January

The 30 year old 6’2" center-back is probably available for around £1M, and Derek LLmabias said today:

“If Chris sees a player he wants to buy for a million pounds or so we will go out and get him for the team.”

Newcastle have only senior center-backs at the club full time, with Zurab Khizanishvili here on loan until December and of course the very promising 19 year-old Tamas Kadar – who is definitely one for the future, and did  his reputation no harm at all, with a stellar performance on Monday night at Sheffield United.

It could well be that Chris wants to bring in another permanent center-back in January (why not Khizanishvili?) and it could be Cort that’s he’s after.

Apparently Hughton wanted Cort on a loan basis earlier this season, but instead plumped for Georgian international Khizanishvili from Blackburn Rovers.

We expect Cort ot be drafted by Newcastle at some point,m although that probably means no bid for Sheffield United center-back, unless we can get him in on loan.

It’s starting to get very interested, but with loan players we could fill out the squad with 4-5 good players – and that would probably even suffice with Joey Barton (January) and Shola ( December) both coming back.

We may have this wrong – but what do you think?

Comments welcome.

Hope not, would much prefer the hawthorne’s disillusioned Robert Koren. Add a bit of Slovenian craft to our blue collar midfield.

    How the mighty have fallen!

It’s good that not only are Carroll, Ranger, Kadar and others are getting a chance but are also doing well imho. Whatever happened to LuaLua? lol , too creative for the Toon! Well maybe a little more time and he’ll break through into the first team.

Can’t get in Stoke’s team, why would he be OK for us. I’d rather keep giving Kadar a go

Khiza and Cort are journeymen with no star quality. Out of Hughton’s signings so far, Khiza, Harewood and Lovenkrands have been truly awful. Cort would come in the same category. I would only sign Simpson out of those currently on loan. Skelbred would be good , however.

So the stadium name is official then! I hope this opens up the eyes of people that say its good to get more money in! NEWSFLASH, no money as he has re-named it after his own company! Yet more lies from the FCB and Igor.

I hate to see James’Park empty, but i do think its the only way to flush the cnut out! He is gambling on getting promoted on a shoestring. If we did manage it this season, what state do you think the tem would be in next season for the prem? Will Ashley invest? Course not! For that reason alone, im hoping we dont go up this year. I very much doubt he would pay another years running costs out if his own pocket so that would force him out! Im sorry, but as Keegan said, sometimes you have to take a step back to go forwards!

    Get out of our club!

@toonsy: It’s been repeated all over the press that it’s an example to potential buyers. Not saying that I agree with it, but I can understand why it’s been renamed and frankly I’d sooner have “ @ St James’ Park” rather than the Greggs Stadium.

Thump – Quite frankly, who cares? What would a supposed £6million a year he is asking buy nowadays? Not a lot! For that i’d much rather have the name kept as St James’ Park and that alone, like it has been since 1880.

Totally agree with you , even if we were to get 6 mil a season ( which I think we will even get half of that ) who could you buy for that?

    Toonsy & Johno
Easy for you to say, ignore six million a year, Typical no thought ignorance, thats thirty mill. over a five year period, which would go a long way towards either transfer fees or day to day operation.
    Talk about dumb ass statements!
Based more on vitriol than any kind of reality.

Johno Toon – Was just going to say that myself. Good point about Arsenal.

chuck – The 6 mill a year Ashley wants will be very far from what he gets! Can you see a long chain of rich international compaines willing to pay Champions League sponser money to a Championship team? No really, because i cant!

Also aren’t our running costs around £100 million a year? The “6 miilion” would make a huge dent in that wouldnt it?

Ed i disagree with you on just about every point. I know nothing about Cort but I know he cannot be worse than Zhurab who should be told to go back to Blackburn immediately. Why another centre back. Taylor and Colo supported by the youngsters Kadar Tozer and Morris is enough cover. Probably what tou didn’t say is Taylor and Colo are realisable assets and will be sold in January.
Our priority in the market place has to be a wide right player with pace, cover for Enrique and a speedy nimble striker so we can tell harewood to duck off

In all seriousness if the NUSC or the trust could raise a couple of million it would be the most effective way to get the message across not just to the owners of the club but to the world at large.

Having a huge message saying True Fans Only @ St James Park or similar would be the best that they could do with their money.

I’m personally devestated watching the team Bruce is assembling over at the stadium of shite. We need a Geordie miracle.

Kadar is starting to look the part at last. He will probably be a life saver at LB if, more likely when, Enrique is out for a sustained period.

Now that Collo and Taylor are back we should be ok, but we missed them badly for a few games and that shows how little depth we have.

Simpson we absoulutely have to try and keep hold of perminantly IMO. Kishanishvilli on a season long loan if possible but not good enough for the prem if we get promoted.

    First choice defense.

    Kizanishvilli RB/CB
    Kadar LB/CB

Llambias’ words as written here are “If Chris sees a player he wants to buy for a million pounds or so we will go out and get him for the team.”.

What, Ed, makes you say that Cort may be THE £1m player to be signed? His words do not include ‘one’ at all.

But of course, Ashley’s past performance in the transfer market do not exactley inspire confidence that there may be more.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Leon Cort?! Haha, don’t make me laugh. It’s nonsense to buy 1m players from other clubs in UK, then you’ll get nothing. If you don’t have money to spend, look to Scandinavia or eastern Europe, there you can get decent players for small amounts of money.
