Can’t see a problem with the club allowing Sports Direct to have a few months at no cost.

It could be argued that apart from the recent £20m paid in by MA, it provides an opportunity to live-market the availability of brand-supported ground sponsorship to potential backers for next season.

any one who supports the idea of rebranding the name is imo not a real fan, dont understand the history, and are only out to watch A game of football,there are other ways of making money without stripping us of our identity, shame on you

Just take a look at Manchester City stadium. What kind of advistisement is all around the ground? Just take a look carefully.

In football business, revenue is first priority.

Lastly, St. James’ Park is forever. NO matter what kind of naming convention is being join up to increase our club revenue.

In order for talented young players to sign up with our already well-known club, a good contract have to be draft in order to attract.

Why they don’t sell football club’s name ? If they can change the stadium name for money so why not Sport Direct.com@Newcastle United football club, AIG@ManU, Gilette@Liverpool ?

Wake up every one.. Including you Ed. Where do you think the 20 million that MA just pumped into the club came from??? Yes that’s right, out of his own pocket! And where does that money in his pocket come from? Sports Direct and Co. So if he wants to stick his company logo on the stadium, so be it. It will still be known as St James Park for christ sake. All this hate mongering is out of control… Where do you think the money for the big name players we will require, if we get promoted will come from?? From all the fans that are no longer buying anything to do with the club as a way of protest… I don’t think so… Stand back and have a look at the big picture… What have we really lost.. As far as I can tell it is only our status in the PL. We can all still watch NUFC play (live and on TV). Let the anger go and let’s get on with supporting the team…

hitting him in the pocket is our only hope of getting this cretan removed , and out of our lives for good, he does not belong here. A total boycott of 2 games,will give him some idea of how much he stands to lose if we go the whole hog and stay away for the rest of the season, although that will never happen,will he not realise how much this COULD cost him.If you are against a boycott, what about gathering outside the entrance,(it wont be the first time) at the final whistle to vent your anger, then the same next week, then the next week, any thing to show your not f…..g happy

Even if he is paying he is certainly getting his advertising out of it as well as guaranteeing another’sellout’ crowd of the anti Ashley brigade.

Why pay to go along and hurl abuse at the fatone??

If you go, then you are supporting all things Ashley – we have already heard this week about the cost of relegation on the club and the fact the fatarse is funding the club out of his own pocket – so if you really want to see the back of him, stay away – just a couple of matches and hit him in hte only plave that matters to him.

I though the same thing myself Ed.

As the sole shareholder in the club, I’m not sure where he stands legally on this.

He said the naming rights were worth at least £6m. So surely he owes the club £3m at least for 7 months of them.

Sure, he owns the club, but he’s essentially giving his other company £3m of freebies. There may not be any other shareholders who suffer as a result – but surely the banks who are owed money by the club would have something to say about clear financial mismanagement. Otherwise he could just siphon everything off to himself, declare the club bankrupt, and the banks would be left with a bad debt they couldn’t recover.

But my knowledge of finance/law isn’t good enough to know what the real case is.
