The German numbers shouldn't come as a surprise. The Bundesliga as a whole averages over 6,000 people more per game than the Premier League (41,914 vs. 35,599 in the 2008-09 season). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attendance_figures_at_domestic_professional_sports_leagues

Yes Ed, please never mention Sports Direct and St James' Park in the same sentence.

I hope most of us would like you to always refer to the stadium in your blogs as St James' Park.

Thanks

@geoff777 I'll 2nd your 2nd post lol

One thing that narked Keegan which hasnt been mentioned much is the sale of Milner. At the time Milner was our best player but the club refused to offer him a new contract he was on £20-25k a week while most of the first team was on at least 40k+ and not playing half as well. So you could see his point.

A Couple of days later Keegan Left

£12m was good value and milner did hand in a transfer request, but only because he wasnt offered a new deal after "3 times" requesting so and being turned down on each occasion by "Denis Wise".

Ed.

Stop calling it the Sports Direct Stadium.

I know you are trying to be funny but we don't need it referred to that anytime ever.

St James Park for ever. No compromise.

Please Ed don't. It's bad enough putting up with that arrogant fat prick.

How the hell are we going to get this idiot out our club. This is heart wrenching.

This is my club not his. I don't care if he's the owner. It's my club (and yours). How dare he treat us like shit. It's a complete and utter joke.

I'm still gobsmacked. Utter disbelief is what I am feeling.

To anyone saying the money from renaming the ground will buy players, just wake up man will you. This prick has no intention of spending any money on the team. It will be youngsters who will break through and then get sold for a profit. We will turn into a feeder club.

Plus what can you get for 6 mill anyway. Any player is a risk but what quality can you get for 6 mill nowadays. Especially in the premiere league.

Money doesn't buy honour and pride.

But his companies make more than he spent on NUFC and the "loan" in a year ... and that's during a depression.

I thought NUFC was his fun plaything.

Mike spend another £100 million on your toy project.

@NewcastleMole

I guess it really depends on whether Ashley wants to repair the damage he's done.

He needs to get rid of Llambias who has no credibility anymore.
He needs a chairman with football knowledge and Newcastle connections.

He needs to have confidence that his business ventures will be cash cows forever into the future and invest massive in NUFC.

It was meant to be a fun hobby for him ... get your bloody wallet out Mike ... have some fun buy Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney out of petty cash ... lol .. then we'll all love you and you can buy us beer again

Geoff 77
Where have you been for the last coupla years ?
Just get out ?
When MA bought the team for a reported 135m.,he also, due to lack of due dilligence, assumed a number of other debts, transfer monies owed etc.
In order to pay off both the debt`s and for the day by day operation of the club, signings, etc.
he wrote a one hundred million interest free check to the club, which is still owed by the club to Ashley.

Does that answer your question ?

@geoff777

The gamble was buying Newcastle without doing due diligence. Hardly smart business sense.

I like you're quote about not taking you're money to the grave but Ashley is devoid of common sense, as is his partner in crime Del Boy. Cockney Chuckle Brothers

The stadium naming rights is free advertising for Sports Direct at the minute. No doubt there'll be a wealth of Companies looking to be the sponsor. It wont seem a good opportunity at first glance, but any company will have their name splashed around Newspapers & TV due to the fall out. The only thing worse than being talked about in a negative light is not being talked about at all.

Sorry to add a second post but ... I'm angry.

I'm a big Kevin Keegan supporter.

In August/September 2008 we played football like we never had under Roeder or Allardyce.

It was fluid and organised. The potential was there for all to see.

Just think if Ashley had given Keegan the cash that he's now having to use to plug up the holes in NUFC's finances due to the relegation.

The relegation caused by Ashley constructively dismissing Kevin Keegan and lying to the press and us the fans.

It is criminal if you think what position we could now be in now with Keegan at the helm for his second full season.

Time for a major gamble to right a major wrong Mr Ashley.

Mike Ashley is owner and custodian of Newcastle United Football Club.

He is responsible for all events that have happened since he took control of the club.

We can only hope he repairs the damage he's done. If we get promoted it will take a large cash injection to move us back to where we were. (mediocre mid-table but guaranteed not to be relegated status)

For a billionaire with a penchant for a gamble we've not seen him splash the cash.
From the moment he bought NUFC his wallet was zipped tight.
It's going to take at least £100 million for him to right his wrongs. Which to be honest is what he should do if he has any honour.
You don't leave this planet with your money Mr. Ashley, only your reputation as a man.

Just think if the assho1e had put in £100 million at the beginning ...
