Few Newcastle fans doubt that Newcastle United have a great fighting spirit in the team this season.
Chris Hughton – has created great team spirit at Newcastle this season
That has surprised a number of fans this season, but it’s also a major reason we’ve been able to fight for the points this season, and the last two games have been two excellent examples.
Last season we would have lost both games but with the lads so motivated and keen to get the results, we won both games, and it was touch and go in both those games too.
Experts in the summer had thought because of Newcastle lack of fight and spirit shown last season they would have a hard job in the Championship this season, as the games in the second division are even tougher in terms of being more physical.
Chris Hughton has to take a lot of the credit for this, and he told the Evening Chronicle today:
“We have a great spirit here now and a great togetherness in the team.” “That is what gained us the result at Sheffield and against Doncaster Rovers. There is always a nice feeling when you gain that type of result.”
“Arguably it is a better feel than when you win a game by four or five quite comfortably.” “It is because you know it has taken a lot of character.” “There has been a lot of teamwork to get that type of result.”
“Especially at Sheffield United, because we knew we had injuries.” “We have had Tamas Kadar playing as a young lad. He has done very well given his experience and has blended into the team spirit around him.”
“There are a lot of pluses, but we have to make sure we grow and improve on that going into a series of home games with the Preston game sandwiched in between.”
Today would be great to get all 3 points, and even a sizeable win, as our next game is not for 16 days when we play at Preston on Monday night, 23rd November.
We then have two home games with Swansea City and Watford – on the following two Saturdays, so that’s what’s in store but the players will have a full 16 days of rest – so let’s go all out this afternoon to give the fans a good win – and stay on top of the Championship.
Chris continued:
“What we have learned this season is that every period of the campaign is important.” “You cannot switch off or play catch-up. We have had so many weeks of two games in a seven-day period or sometimes three.”
“You know from Saturday to Saturday it is not about three points like the Premier League.” “It can be about six or nine points, so two losses can see you six points adrift from where you were the week before.”
“It seems we have had so many big weeks, but it is always tough.” “When you look at target areas like the Christmas one or getting through it, there are many targets.”
The Peterborough game is less than two hours away now, and we have to hope for two things – and we’ll be very happy at 5:00 pm tonight.
We need to win, and we need another clean sheet, not we should have our first choice defense back on the filed.
Howay The Lads!!
