Jonas Gutierrez Injury Not Too Serious

Newcastle wanted to get off to a fast start this afternoon against Peterborough, and they did that thanks to the energetic good form of Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez.

Jonas Gutierrez – first goal for Newcastle – great!

The 26-year-old hit Newcastle’s first goal after just 12 minutes, and it was the Argentine star’s first ever goal for Newcastle, and then 3 minutes later Andy Carroll added a second for his 4th goal of the season.

But then on 21 minutes Gutierrez seemed to get some kind of thigh injury, and although it was only slight, Chris brought him off as a precaution, not wanting to take any chances. That was a sensible move by  Chris with our very small squad.

If we can get 30 wins, we’ll almost certainly be automatically promoted, and we’re just about on track, after getting out of our bad spell.

A delighted Chris Hughton talked about Jonas after Newcastle completed their 3rd win a row, and 10th win in 16 league games so far this season. That’s a 62.5%  win rate – and yes – we know – it’s England’s second division.

We’re on track to get around 95 points if we continue how we’ve started our first 16 games, just over 1/3 of the league games – so far so good.

Chris said after the game:

“Jonas has been a wonderful player for us,” “But you evaluate every player and the one area of Jonas’ game that he knows and we know he can improve on is his ability to score goals.”

“He was certainly delighted with that and I am delighted for him.” “We wanted to start the game at a high tempo and one example of that would have been Gutierrez.”

“He had missed a few games for us, and it has probably taken him a little bit of time to get back into his stride, but he started very, very well today.” “The only shame was that he had to come off.”

“It’s a slight injury, I need to check to be honest with you, but it was obviously enough for him to come off.”

Let’s hope Jonas’ injury is not too bad, as he does have 16 days to recover before our next game.

We’ll need Gutierrez at Preston North End – we need all the goal-scorers we can get. :D.

its just been on sky and it was rather tidy if a little fortunate on the very slight (luckily) deflection.

This isn’t his first ever goal for Newcastle. He scored in pre-season a few months ago.

Its his first competitive goal, not first ever. Same applies to Alan Smith if he ever scores.

Jonas Gutierrez is a quality quality player.

You don’t get rid of a player that has a natural ability to run past players with the ball. Those type of players are very rare. Newcastle should do their best to hold on to him. He does have areas he needs to improve in his game, but even in the Premier League last season Jonas was running at players with the ball and beating them.

Hopefully this goal gives him the confidence he needs to go on and score more goals this season.
