Skysports.com is reporting today that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Portsmouth defender Mike Williamson.
Mike Williamson – Newcastle interested
The 26 year-old 6’4″ center-back, who was signed from Watford for £3just M last September, has had a hard time of it establishing himself at the south coast club.
But with Portsmouth in trouble financially, Newcastle could cut a good deal with his club for the player.
Maybe the best deal would be to take him on loan and see how he does, with a view to signing him in the summer, if he does well.
Mike has been on the fringes of the first-team at Pompey, after shining at Watford and Wycombe Wanderers.
Mike was born ion Stoke, and has played for Torquay, Southampton, Doncaster Rovers, Wycombe Wanderers and Watford, but has yet to play for the Portsmouth first team.
He played 146 times for Wycombe with 11 goals and he played 21 times for Watford with 2 goals.
The question has to be how come he has never played at Portsmouth, but it seems that Chris Hughton is still keen on the player.
We’d prefer the lad comes here on loan, so we can gauge just how good he is.
In looking at our archives we were presumably interested in Mike while he was still at Watford last August – here’s our report where we mention he could be available for around £2M.
Comments always welcome.
