Hughton, Calderwood In Talks Today With Simpson

Danny Simpson did not have a particularly good game last night and there was evidence that while he may be a good Championship player, he will struggle in the Premier league.

Danny Simpson in last ditch talks with Newcastle

The Evening Chronicle has revealed that a fresh round of talks with Danny Simpson are being held today to try to break the impasse on Danny’s wage demands.

It seems that Hughton is very keen to sign the Manchester United full-back on a permanent basis and was disappointed when the deal fell through last week.

It’s still not clear whether a £500K deal has been arranged with the Red Devils for Danny, or whether the wages are the sole barrier to a successful deal.

And Simpson is supposed to return to Old Trafford tonight, but further talks have been scheduled today with both Hughton and Colin Calderwood to discuss the lad’s future.

Last night, Simpson limped off with a knock in the closing stages of last night’s 2-2 draw with West Brom, and didn’t have a particularly good game.

But he got an excellent ovation from the Toon faithful, as he left the field, after doing very well in his loan spell, where he started 21 times for the Magpies and scored one goal.

We would like to see the lad sign in January on a permanent basis, and we would hope that he will improve when, and if, we return to the Premiership next season.

There’s absolutely no doubting the lad’s character, spirit or his commitment to the Toon – no doubt at all.

We hope there’s a breakthrough today.

In regards to Puma. I will NOT buy anything with a black cat on it, I split with my ex because I kicked her black cat in the balls every time I saw it. No Sireee, not for me. Thank you.

Simpsons good enough for this league but you can hardly call him prem quality, everything for the toon happens down the left through Enrique and Jonas, part of the problem is tha twe are constantly changing our right hand side “winger” – we seem to have had a Ryan Taylor, Guthrie, Lovenkrands, Barton and anyone else who’ll agree to play there (none of them being natural wingers)
Would be interesting to see how many goals have been conceded from our right hand side of the field as oppossed to our left – it’s no coincidence that Matteo had highlighted that side as our weak side and just doubled up Jonas / Enrique to stem the flow

Personally think we can do better than Simpson as I worry how he’ll cope in prem, strange that even with all of Manures defensive problems this season that fergie hasn’t bothered to try and recall him or offer him a contract!

Get him in, I don’t think we can have much more and he’s twice the right back Raylor is.

Enrique and Jonas work well on the left and seem to get plenty of cover when needed. The right have had more changes and I could see Simpson didn’t have the same cover and huge gaps appeared on the right at times. Maybe that was DiMateo’s tactics, push on to Enrique and create space on the opposite wing, it seemed to work.

Difficult to say if Simpson is prem quality yet however if we are promoted I’d have thought we’d still need to buy 5 to 6 1st team players in the summer. If Barton comes back and does his job well that’d be like a new signing anyway.

First time anyway has ever really got at him and he couldnt cope at all…looked nackered by the end of the game.

Lets be honest Thomas has him everytime he wanted, and he is not a great plater, and WBA always knew there best chance was down our right.

i think simpson could learn alot being with taylor and enrique, look at enrique everyone said when he started here how bad he was for the first season but he has just come on leaps and bounds bulked up a bit and can now hold his own, i’m sure given the chance simpson can have a great end product just needs more 1st team action,
good buy imho and as for the puma shirts i think you will find they will put a white cat on it like they have with other teams (at least i hope they do!!)

In fairness to Simpson, Guthrie gave him very little cover, moving inside a lot and several times, Danny was left with 2 players to mark.
I hope he signs but not on stupid wages.

Over the time he’s been at the club, he has performed well. Dont forget, he’s still developing and will/ should get better.

If the price is right and the wages aint silly, he will do good job for us. We already know he’s prepared to put a full shift in and give his all.
