After finally signing Danny Simpson last night through 2013, we think the next player to arrive back at Newcastle is Marlon Harewood.
Marlon Harewood – returning to Newcastle?
Marlon can do a job for us, and while a portion of the Newcastle faithful don’t rate him too highly, he did start to play well for us, once he was fit, and the player would love to return on Tyneside, on loan.
But the Harewood camp are starting to get itchy feet, and apparently London club QPR have registered their interest in the striker.
A source close to Harewood has told the Newcastle Journal:
“QPR have made a firm enquiry and they have asked whether Marlon would be up for a move to Loftus Road.”
“It is an interesting proposition, but Marlon has made it clear he would rather come back to Newcastle because he enjoyed his time up there so much.”
“But he can’t wait forever, there isn’t much time left in the transfer window and there are other options on the table.”
“Newcastle need to get on with it if they want him because a decision will be made by the start of next week at Marlon’s end.”
“He doesn’t want to be left at Aston Villa because he doesn’t feel comfortable there anymore.”
This seems a move by Marlon’s people to try to get Newcastle to act, and we would expect, if all other options fall away in the next few days, Chris Hughton will go after Marlon.
We don’t think Marlon would be a bad acquisition, although it would only be for this season.
His club, Aston Villa, who made the final of the Carling Cup last night by beating Blackburn Rovers 6-4, have made it clear they would prefer to sell the player this month, rather than let him leave on a temporary basis.
Marlon’s contract with the club runs out on June 30th, and he will then become a free agent.
Unless Newcastle surprise us with some other striker, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Marlon will be back on Tyneside – we should know by next Monday, at the latest.
