Sensible Words from Fanzine’s Steve Wraith

Steve Wraith has made some sensible comments today in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, and calls for the Newcastle club and fans to be patient as we look to strengthen the squad in January, and go full pelt for promotion.

Owner Mike Ashley delighted with Hughton this season – back him Mike

Lifetime fan Wraith runs the Players Inc fanzine, and he thinks that Newcastle will indeed strengthen the squad before the end of January.

Steve said today:

“We need to pull together and support Chris Hughton and the lads in the coming months.”

“We need to shed the negativity which has hung around this club for the last two years and get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.”

“People keep asking will this team be strong enough for the Premier League?”  “It does not need to be, because we are not in that league yet.”

“We have a big FA Cup tie and a chance of a landing a Premier League team in the fifth round.”  “A league and cup double is still a possibility – let’s just enjoy the winning feeling while we can.”

“With two weeks left in the window there is still time to make adjustments to the squad.” “We all know injuries and suspensions could cause us problems over the coming months and we need to strengthen.”

“The new wage structure may well mean we are not an attractive option to some ‘big’ name players, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, is it?”

“We have had too many mercenaries ply their trade at our club over the years.”  “Patience is the key. I am sure we will bring in a few players before the end of the month.”

Those are measured words from Steve, and we agree completely with his sentiment.

There is still  a big job to do before the end of the season, and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves and start talking about getting 100 points in the Championship this season.

We have to take each game one by one, and try to get all 3 points from every single game. If we can do that, we have an excellent chance to be promoted this season, and in our opinion that will be a Miracle on the Tyne – given where we were on July 1st last year.

We’d just love it – and that’s an understatement!

A thoughtful and logical assessment. Steve tells it as it is – really is. I still think we must put out the strongest available side against West Brom though. If we lose in the cup we still have the primary job of getting promoted. If we win we can try for a cup run. Why not? Come on – lets have another 1969.

You’ve done it again Ed and I was the first to spot your deliberate mistype – when do I get the prize?

For those who didn’t spot it, a clue……it’s all to do with winning every game and standing an excellent chance of promotion!

    Think about it

We are not an attractive option for some big name players ?
Obviously we are not an option for the bargain basement crowd either, having been turned down by the two we went after.
The reason being we dont want to pay the going rate, Ashley thinks he is operating a retail business and playing hardball with prices that are obviously unacceptable to either players or the clubs who own their contracts.
Seems he wants only to get back to the PL where it`s obvious the club will bring a better price than one in the second tier.
Which in turn indicates very little outgoing and the reason we are rummaging in the bargain basement, looking for average players available for nowt.

Steve Wraith say’s be patient while we get the players in we need. For christ sake how many more windows do we have to be patient. Just look at the facts Hughton say’s we will get our No 1 targets – we get none of them, Hughton say’s Mike Ashley will back him in the transfer market – He hasn’t and won’t. Once again we have someone spouting off to back the manager, does he not realise the fans ARE backing the manager AND the team. It’s Bloody Ashley everybody hates.

Chuck I dont agree with you that we are unwilling to pay the going rate ,

Going on reports in the media we have a wage cap of 30k a week on all new signings , that is a massive amount of money for a CHAMPIONSHIP team, I read a wba fan say their highest earner is on less than that on bbc606 ,

I firmly belive the squad we have is good enough to get us promotion unless we are hit with a huge injuries to almost the entire squad and I dont think we need to buy players for the sake of it , quality over quantity for me and there is little quality out there that we can attract at the moment due to the division we are in

    Couldn’t agree more Geordie Jock.

Has Steve lost his marbles; a league and cup double – wake up son this squad isn’t big enough to cope with the rest of this league season never mind a cup as well.

Some people need to have a reality check. I think living in the area must allow some people to live in a bubble. Most teams in the Premiere League would wipe the floor with our lot, I’m sorry to say.

johno toon , that 30k cap probably refers to the combined wage of the signing during this transfer window – that’ll be permanent & loaned players…

……so if danny simpson is on 10/15k per week we can still afford to sign 2 third’s of marlon harewood……wow wee
