Steve Wraith has made some sensible comments today in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, and calls for the Newcastle club and fans to be patient as we look to strengthen the squad in January, and go full pelt for promotion.
Owner Mike Ashley delighted with Hughton this season – back him Mike
Lifetime fan Wraith runs the Players Inc fanzine, and he thinks that Newcastle will indeed strengthen the squad before the end of January.
Steve said today:
“We need to pull together and support Chris Hughton and the lads in the coming months.”
“We need to shed the negativity which has hung around this club for the last two years and get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.”
“People keep asking will this team be strong enough for the Premier League?” “It does not need to be, because we are not in that league yet.”
“We have a big FA Cup tie and a chance of a landing a Premier League team in the fifth round.” “A league and cup double is still a possibility – let’s just enjoy the winning feeling while we can.”
“With two weeks left in the window there is still time to make adjustments to the squad.” “We all know injuries and suspensions could cause us problems over the coming months and we need to strengthen.”
“The new wage structure may well mean we are not an attractive option to some ‘big’ name players, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, is it?”
“We have had too many mercenaries ply their trade at our club over the years.” “Patience is the key. I am sure we will bring in a few players before the end of the month.”
Those are measured words from Steve, and we agree completely with his sentiment.
There is still a big job to do before the end of the season, and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves and start talking about getting 100 points in the Championship this season.
We have to take each game one by one, and try to get all 3 points from every single game. If we can do that, we have an excellent chance to be promoted this season, and in our opinion that will be a Miracle on the Tyne – given where we were on July 1st last year.
We’d just love it – and that’s an understatement!
