Sky Sports is now reporting that Mike Williamson is on Tyneside having a medical.
Mike Williamson – having medical on Tyneside
The Championship leaders have had a bid of £1M accepted by the cash-strapped Portsmouth club.
The center-half has not played at all for Pompey’s first-team since his £2M switch from Watford on the last day of the transfer window in early September.
Since Newcastle were working on reaching an agreement on terms for Mike, we have to assume that has now been achieved, otherwise he wouldn’t be having a medical.
We expect an announcement today from Newcastle, that the center-back has indeed signed for for the famous Tyneside club.
The fact that Mike has not played for the Portsmouth first team this season is worrying.
But it is being reported by the Evening Chronicle that the reason for this is related to the terms of the agreement, which would pay more than the initial £2M to Watford, based on the number of first team appearances Mike made.
Whether that’s true or not – we don’t know – but we hope so because we need to be signing only top-class players right now.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Don’t know much about this fella (apart from him being a big CB who cost 2-3M from Watford last year), so can’t comment on how good a signing he is. But I am pleased that:
1. He’s a Brit (good when quotas kick in and no language or style problems)
2. Nobody saw it coming – when will we learn to ignore the press??
3. It’s another body and shows lessons are being learned in the boardroom. A bit.
Good thing as far as I’m concerned. But no doubt some will moan ‘cos we didn’t get John Terry…

Comment #3Honestly, never heard of him and he cannot be a world beater or one of the Prem clubs at the top end would have bought him – that said, Pompey bought a certain Lassana Diara and look where he is now.
I like that he’s English too, perhaps selling Colo pre-season gives him and Taylor a good chance?
Lets just get behind the lad and give him the support we should do.

Comment #4If Tony Adams thought he was good (1st choice while under him) then he can’t be all bad. Not playing well at Portsmouth this season is no more an indication of quality than not playing well at Newcastle last season. (Colo, anyone?)
Good luck to the lad – hope he’s the right sort to fit in and give it his all.

Comment #5Anyone out there with knowledge of Wycombe, Watford or Pompey who can shed light on him? I know he bangs in a goal about every 10 games, which is very Stephen Taylor of him.

Comment #6How about a loan deal for Finnan from Pompey? He’d be great cover for the two fullback slots?

Nobody saw it coming, and ?
It`s another body and shows lessons are being learned in the boardroom, a bit, huh?
Is this some kind of code, cause I have no idea what you are getting at.
