Krul, Kadar And Pancrate Start For Newcastle

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has put out a strong starting line-up for today’s FA Cup Fourth Round tie at The Hawthorns.

Hughton retains six of the side who started the game on Monday evening, with Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Danny Guthrie, Alan Smith, Jonas Gutierrez and Kevin Nolan all retaining their places today.

As we expected Ryan Taylor,  Tim Krul and Tamas Kadar all start in defense, and Kevin Nolan will again play a more advanced role, off  lone striker Andy Carroll, with Fabrice Pancrate coming in, on the right wing, as expected.

Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi, Kazenga LuaLua, Nile Ranger, Ben Tozer, Shane Ferguson and Ryan Donaldson are named as substitutes, so that’s a fairly young bench.

West Brom name the same side that started the game at St.James’ Park five days ago, and gave Newcastle such a hard time of it, especially in the first 45 minutes of that game.

TEAMS

WBA: Scott Carson (c), Gonzalo Jara, Marek Cech, Jonas Olsson, Jerome Thomas, Graham Dorrans, Youssouf Mulumbu, Robert Koren, Chris Brunt, Gabriel Tamas, Roman Bedner
Subs: Dean Kiely, Simon Cox, Luke Moore, Joe Mattock, Gianni Zuiverloon, Ishmael Miller, Filipe Teixeira

Newcastle United: Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor, Tamas Kadar, Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Fabrice Pancrate, Danny Guthrie, Alan Smith (c), Jonas Gutierrez, Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll
Subs: Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi, Kazenga LuaLua, Nile Ranger, Ben Tozer, Shane Ferguson, Ryan Donaldson

Referee: James Linington
Attendance: tbc

I’m glad Nolan is playing off the main striker.
Nolan doesn’t create anything or get up and down in midfield, but he does know where the net is.

So whether it’s off Ranger, Shola, Lovenkrands or Carroll, that’s where Nolan should stay.

Also glad to see Guthrie move inside, although not sure abut Pancrate at all – he does seem a bit of a headless chicken. I’d like to see Lua get a go.

Heard some quite worrying reports about S Taylor having a serious injury – anyone know more ?

Need to get a goal back before half time, go in at 2-1 and a rollocking from Chris and we’ll have a game on our hands!

    Mon tha toon!!

It’s alright lads, we can still continue in the league. I honestly think that WBA have shot themselves in the foot by naming the same squad. Next league game is going to be very difficult for some of their players – this is pride for them, not a cup game.

The cup does not matter because we cannot win it. The team which wins will probably do worse in the league. Our aim must be promotion. With the fat man in charge that is all we can hope for. Unless some stupid Arab comes in for us we will never win the Prem. So our aim must be to get promoted, establish ourselves and within the next 10 years try to win the FA cup
