Donaldson Could Get Chance At Right-Back On Wednesday

Newcastle have a number for injuries today, and it’s an open question as to who will play at right-back on Wednesday night, against Crystal Palace.

Ryan Donaldson – right-back on Wednesday?

Chris Hughton talked today about the injuries Newcastle have recently sustained:

“We have been fortunate with injuries, but we’re going through a stage now where we’re picking up a few.”
“We’ve got to make sure we do something about it this week.”

“We’re still waiting to see what happens with Williamson, but if it doesn’t happen, we must look elsewhere, we need cover.”

It appears that Shola Ameobi’s shoulder injury may not be as bad as first feared, so that’s some good news.

Hughton continued:

“I’m sure Shola’s OK – he’s just fallen on his shoulder.”

“But Steven won’t be available for Wednesday.”

“We’ll find out the extent of it over the next couple of days.”

It could be that Ryan Donaldson will have a chance at right-back on Wednesday, and the local lad certainly played solidly there, during the final minutes of the WBA game on Saturday.

The 18 year-old former St Cuthberts High School student has so far made 5 appearances for Newcastle this season, with a single start in the Carling Cup.

    FRom the previous thread….

The player I would go all out for (3-4mil?) is ol’ Darren ambrose. Goals from midfield, creative wide right play, mobile, already playing in this league.
Isn’t he just about the perfect solution for our p

We should be after loan deals of Premiership quality.

Signing all these Championship & League 1 players will only mean we’ll have to sell them again when they don’t make the grade at the highest level.

    Isnt Donaldson a CAM/CF?

Sounds familiar doesnt it, round pegs on square holes. Get a mobile forward, a proper CAM and a proper RW and p[lay them for gods sake

Mole – why Premiership quality? We’re playing CCC teams, and this is OUR money you’re suggesting we spend.

Save the money for summer. Get a couple of good loans to do the job NOW to get us promoted. Then construct a Prem team if we need one.

I was saying in a previous thread, Jonas plays RB for Argentina, doesn’t he? So he’s a possibility.

But then I guess there’s questions of who would play LM? and why move a player who has been in decent form in that position?

The problem with playing a youngster is Victor Moses plays in LM for Palace…

Donaldson is a ” lively pacey front man” according to NUFC site so gonna do good at RB.

We’ve known all season our first team is competetive but a few injuries could effect the team, that time is now and we need some strengthening in certain positions……….

Why was Ambrose ever let go ?

SBR obviously saw something in him. He’s scored something like 13 goals this season and can pass a through ball, somthing none of our lot can do.

We are so dumb at newcastle we should have played Milner ”in the hole ” like we did with Beardo. We have just had the worst collection of chairman, managers and coaches you could imagine (Souness, Allardyce, Dalglish) to name a few !!

Only fit players I have real faith in atm are Colo, Enrique, Jonas and Loven.

Butt, Smith n Nolan have all gone off the boil, Shola injured, Carroll could still do well but he’s umpredictable, Pancrate hasn’t produced much yet and Ranger’s not had enough playing time yet. Kadar could do well though.

Ashley you fcb – do you know anything at all?

When you buy a club in the premier league, you do not sell all the best players without replacing them and then sack decent managers.

I hate you. Get out of our club.

Lots of comments about donanldson being a forward here, lets not forget, Steve Howie was a forward, Steve Watson was a keeper / forward and a certain STaylor played for Monkseaton HS as a forward, so don’t judge the lad too harshly yet. Lets see what he can do before we destroy his confidence all together.

I think at right back Hughton will be forced to play James Tavernier – who he played at the Peterborough cup I went to see.

He looked ‘ok’ but no more.

Played there monday and he put the best cross in from our right all game. Guthrie and Taylor were really wayward so dont really mean much.

Hes a player who needs to be getting into the team soon and a footballer with natural talent should be able to play at right back.
