It seems that the deal for Mike Williamson may not go through, since Newcastle are reported to have approached Birmingham City about a loan move for Martin Taylor, although this may a contingency deal.
Martin Taylor – loan talks ongoing
Newcastle have both Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson injured, and Ryan Taylor is also suspended after his sending off at WBA on Saturday, so the club is anxious to get reinforcements in quickly.
Although Newcastle have already had an offer accepted for Portsmouth’s Mike Williamson, and he has agreed terms and passed a medical, there still appear to be some delays over a sell-on clause to Watford, and Pompey have no funds to pay off Watford, if the deal goes through.
How the Portsmouth club can get away with this is beyond us, since they are obviously up to their eyeballs in debt, and haven’t got the cash flow needed to run the club – and pay off their debts.
And Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has this morning confirmed that representatives of central defender Taylor have been in discussions with Newcastle United about a possible loan move.
The 6’4″ 30-year-old was born in Ashington, and would probably be delighted to join Newcastle on loan, as he will know all about the club, that’s for sure.
Mark would be a good acquisition for the rest of the season, because he can also play at right back.
We’re not sure who will come in finally, Mark Taylor or Mike Williamson (or both?), but it’s clear the club want to wrap up their transfer business this week.
