Newcastle Sign Williamson And Go After Daniel Fox

Newcastle United are reporting the club have finally completed the signing of Mike Williamson from Portsmouth, and there are reports that Newcastle are after former left back target,  23 year-old Daniel Fox of Celtic.

A delighted Mike Williamson this afternoon

The 26-year-old 6’4″ center-back will wear the No.6 shirt,  and is cleared to play tonight against Crystal Palace, so there is a possibility Newcastle will start two new signings in tonight’s game. That should help to ensure a decent crowd at tonight’s important game.

Mike was born in Stoke, and told the Evening Chronicle earlier today that he was delighted to sign for the famous north-east club.

This lad could be an astute signing, but the fact he never once appeared for the Portsmouth first team, is a little worrisome to some Newcastle fans, including us.

The fee is undisclosed but thought to be around £1.2M.

And more breaking news is that Newcastle are after Celtic full-back Daniel Fox, who was a target of ours last year while he was at Coventry City, and moved to Celtic last summer, but is now available for around £2M.

However, because Everton are also after the player, we would think it unlikely he would arrive on Tyneside, to give Enrique competition at left back.

A few days after the humiliation of relegation last May here’s a report we wrote which profiled Daniel Fox as one of 5 players we could sign.

With the two new signings these last two days, all we need now is for the two lads to play tonight, play well, and assist the lads in getting say a 3-0 win – then everything will start to look good again in the Newcastle garden.

If that happens we’ll be delighted – for sure.

Comments welcome.

Palace have TWO subs for tonight?? ahahahaha eee its not funny really!!! MUCH

as for tonight id go for

    ————————Harper

    Coloccini–Williamson—Kadar—Enrique

    Routledge—-Smith(C)—Guthrie—Jonas

    ————–Carroll——Lovenkrands

subs- Krul, Tozer, Butt, Nolan, Pancrap, Ranger, Donaldson

Id start Colo at right back because he has played there before at Deportivo and Argentina and id start with Guthrie instead of Nolan. Game has passed Nolan by recently, maybe he needs a rest!!

I dont think he will sign a left back. I reckon his priorty is a striker and another centre back as S.Taylor is out for a while.

The left back situation can be sorted by the fact both Kadar and R.Taylor can do a job there in the Championship.

Why would we need two left backs? that just seems …logical. only about two years too late on that one

    @thud and blunder

Nolan is suffering with form as he is playing a more withdrawn role. He suits playing just behind the striker.

Ive got him down as first scorer in my 2-0 scorecast so i need him to start.

The omens are looking good (that in its self is a worry).
Palace in dire straights and struggling to put together a team, never mind a squad!

We’re unbeaten at home and have potentially 2 new signings on display………..BUT…….we still havent improved our weakest area, the forwards.

We desperately need a goal poacher. We have the big man, Shola / Carroll / Ranger, none of which can score consistanty or remain fit consistantly…….Lovenkrands is a different option, but can lack that killer instinct!

We could have 80% possesion tonight but if we cant put the ball into the back of the net !

Come on Ashley, you managed to find your purse and open it, keep it going and for once dont come out of a transfer window, with the fans disappointed AGAIN!

    @ Newcastlemole

Yeah I know, hes been poor ever since he reverted back to playing alongside Smith, he just has NO pace at all, the game just by-passes him bit like it did last season in the Premier League. He is more suited to playing away from home behind a striker. Thats why at SJP he should make way for Guthrie and DEFO for Barton we he is fit again.

My view is he wont score many more than the 11 he has so far this season. I hope he prooves me wrong though

Think we should remember that the Palace players are playing for possible moves to other clubs and tonight gives them a chance to impress. Don’t think this will be an easy game no matter how few subs are on Palace’s bench and Moses out.

lol its funny how everyones falling short of praising MIKE ASHLEY on the running of the club lately-so il do it! -things are looking up in that department mike- well done!-mistakes have been made and your proving now that your trying to make amends-i just want everyone to pull in the same direction and get this promotion charge back on course! isnt it about time the fcb chants were quelled at least at matches? hes holdiing the purse strings after all-many an owner has made bad mistakes-but u have to admire his business stamina and determination- sticking around whilst nearly being headhunted-u have to admit the way clubs’ debts are going-the arsenal model he was trying to follow seems like the exact way to go! even if we are still hopeless lol-now-when is” wise ( ive the eye) for young talent” comin back hahaha

Jim – I do agree with you. Although he has made mistakes, his system of lower wages, buying younger players etc etc is just wat I want to see. Big fees and wages are wat killed this club.
Positive future ahead just need patience.

going back to the heady days of Keegan, 3 centre backs NEVER works, especially for Newcastle…we were crap with it then (Peacock, Howey, Albert) and we would be even worse now

    Harper

    Kadar/geremi Williamson Collicini Enrique

    Routeldge Guthrie Smith Guitterez

    Lovenkrands Carroll

Yeah ive always thought why the hell dont we use Geremi at right back. He plays there for Cameroon, he would be at least half decent. But he never seems to get picked there at newcastle.

Id just get shot of him now and get the 52k a week back (or in ashleys pocket, the greedy get)

yeh would love to see him and barton f ooff. Barton way too injury prone and geremi past his best. But he would do a tidy job at right back though (he plays for his country there like you say and im sure hes their captain too). hes got a decent delivery aswell if he can get past the half way line lol

Hughton has already said that Geremi wants out so i doubt he would play him not only because he doesn’t want to be a Newcastle player anymore but also incase he gets injured which would kill off any possible transfer. I think the signing of Routledge was pulled off on the bases that we would lose 60k a week off the wage bill from Geremi which would free up about 1.2mil

    aza9,

not bad business then i guess. But no1s going to buy geremi because he wont lower his wages so we are stuck either way. If you look at it from the other side, he could play well to get a move to someone like blacburn (to sam fat alardyce who signed him i think) or even stoke etc

    Tavernier – Williamson – Colo – Enrique

    Routledge – Nolan – Smith – Jonas

Carroll – Ranger (unless Bambi is fit)

Well it was rumored Geremi himself was trying to structure a move to some Turkish side before he went of to the ACN. So maybe he will lower his wage demands to move. The sooner the likes of Geremi and Butt are off our wage bill the better!
