After Crystal Palace were put into administration on Tuesday, you have to give credit to the Palace players last night, because they played their hearts out at St. James’ Park.
Chris Hughton – relieved with the win
Crystal Palace never made it easy for Newcastle, and no team will, and most of our remaining games will be tough, just like it was last night.
That’s a reality that both players and fans will have to get used to.
But manager Chris Hughton was rightly relieved that his team was back on track with another league win:
“We needed the second goal a lot earlier than we got it but the win is all that matters,”
“The win was more important than the margin of victory and Palace made it a very tough evening for us, it was a very spirited performance from them.”
“The pressure is still on us and we must expect that every week until the end of the season because that is what this league is all about.”
“Everyone will want to make it tough for us and we have to make sure we get the points to get us up. It can be different from one week to the next but the most important thing was three points.”
“There were aspects of our performance which could have been better, the final ball and so on, but Palace are a good side and were never going to roll over.”
It was a game in which we could have dropped points, but we didn’t – and that has to be good.
Next up is an away trip to Leicester City late Saturday afternoon – and that hardly looks an easy game either.
