One of the pleasing aspects of the game last night, was the performance of center-back Mike Williamson, who was finally signed just hours before the game started.
Mike Williamson – excellent debut last night
And since the lad never played a first game since last August, it was even more surprising that Mike never put a foot wrong, in such an important game for his new side.
That’s not only testament to Mike’s ability, but also to his temperament and courage, that he could come in and play such a big part for his new club.
And manager Chris Hughton was delighted with Mike’s debut, and the lad looked a great addition to the squad, as he slotted in alongside Coloccini, and strolled through the game in commanding form.
Manager Chris Hughton had special praise for the former Wycombe, Portsmouth and Watford defender, after the game:
“Where I was delighted was with Mike. When you consider he has not played a first-team game for several months and has only played in reserve fixtures while at Portsmouth, he was excellent.”
“I was absolutely delighted with him, it was a very assured debut. We really needed him, particularly at the end.”
This boy looks like an excellent signing, and our other signing this week, Wayne Routledge, also looked useful when he came on, and Wayne laid on the second goal for 18 year-old Nile Ranger.
So both our new boys played their part last night – well done to both of them.
