Well would you believe it – Newcastle have reportedly put in a bid for Crystal Palace winger Victor Moses.
Victor Moses – Newcastle in for the 19 year-old
The Evening Chronicle is reporting this, and there’s a couple of things to say about the situation – one is that Newcastle could get a good deal for the youngster, and the other is the player is a potentially big star in the making – having been outstanding for the England U19 team.
The news suggests that Newcastle are one of three clubs to bid for Moses, along with promotion rivals Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion.
Because Palace are in so much debt, the administrators have said the club must sell the 5’10” Moses, and indeed Crystal Palace were today deducted 10 points for going into administration, and are now just 3 points above a relegation spot, in 21st place.
Victor Moses was born in Nigeria and has played 58 times for Palace and scored 11 goals, so he certainly has a good pedigree. He has played for the England U16, U17 and U19 teams and is currently a team-mate of our own Nile Ranger in the England U19 squad.
We hope we sign the youngster, who only turned 19 last month, since he fits into the Youth Policy Newcastle started a couple of years ago – of buying top young players while they are still developing, and finishing their development at the Tyneside club.
We hope we can sign this lad, and if we do, then this could be the best transfer window ever, under Newcastle owner Mike Ashley.
Mike and Managing Director Derek Llambias have actually supported manager Chris Hughton this time round, even though we missed out on our initial top two targets.
