Central Defense Now A Strength At Newcastle

Newcastle United center-back Steven Taylor found out that he will not need will not need an operation for  the knee ligament damage he sustained against WBA.

Steven Taylor – no operation necessary

Chris Hughton is said by the Evening Chronicle to be personally confident that the Newcastle lad could even be back in contention next month.

But Chris has done well in the transfer window to shore up the central defense with the signing of new boy Mike Williamson, loan signing Fitz Hall and 19 year-old Hungarian Tamas Kadar, all capable of playing well in central defense in Steven’s absence.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle:

“Steven Taylor will be out for a period of time.” “It’s his medial ligament.”“It certainly doesn’t need an operation – it’s just going to be a period of rehabilitation and rest.”

“I’m still to find to out for exactly how long.” “It’s normal stuff with the specialists, but it’s certainly going to be a matter of weeks.”

We’re surprised that no operation is necessary on Steven’s knee, and it will not be necessary to rush the lad back,  if Mike Williamson keeps up the form he has shown so far at Newcastle.

The lad’s been just fantastic in his first two games.

And we also have Tamas Kadar, who we hope will get some more games before the end of  the season.

But Hughton has said today that Tamas Kadar still has a big role to play in the run-in to the season:

“Tamas is still very much involved. I see them as different types of player.

“I wouldn’t rule Tamas out of being involved in any of the next few games.”

If Williamson and Coloccini form a good partnership in Steven’s absence, our best back four when he returns could well be

Taylor (S) Coloccini Williamson Enrique

That’s some back four!

That would be a good solid back four imo. love it when stevie t plays right back as he’s not scared to go forward and support up the top end.

I agree about that back four Ed.

Though not completely sold on Williamson yet… He’s good in the air but could be lost for pace in the Premiership. He hadn’t been playing much at Pompey so hopefully it’s rust.

defence, about time, give credit to the manager, and stability for once, not the chopping and changing of the past, keep it going Hughton
