Newcastle fans were not the only ones upset at Newcastle’s insipid performance against 10 man Leicester City on Saturday night.
Mike Williamson – manager had some choice words after game
Apparently Newcastle manager Hughton was furious with the team after the game in the dressing room.
Mike Williamson, who had another outstanding game for the Magpies second time out, revealed:
“The manager had a few choice words after the game. He wasn’t happy with us at all. The players were very disappointed but we just take the positives and move on to the next game,” he said.
“I know Chris comes over as very calm and collected but he has a switch on him. I can see his point because we didn’t play well enough.”
“They’ve got some good individual players and they showed they play like a team. They set their stall out and showed what they’re good at.”
“We were quite sloppy at times all over the pitch and I think we were lucky at times as well to come out with the point. It was disappointing – they went down to ten men and we wanted to capitalize on that. But we just have to go again on Friday now.”
Of course once Wellens was sent off after 29 minutes, most Geordie fans thought Newcastle would get on top – but that just didn’t happen. It seemed that Leicester picked up all the loose balls in midfield.
And yes, we know it can be difficult to play against ten men,
But Newcastle players didn’t seem to be awake most of the game on Saturday, and there was only one team who fought like crazy throughout the game – and it wasn’t Newcastle.
Mike continued:
“When a team goes down to ten men you want to be pushing forward and creating chances but in the end, considering how we were playing, a draw and a clean sheet – you take the positives and move on,”
“It can be tougher playing against ten men. They get behind the ball when they’re down to ten. But they actually went back to two up front and were pushing on in the second half – it was a bit unique.”
“The positives are we got the point – we ground it out. We just want to get back to good performances and keep going to stay where we are and push ourselves over the line,”
“At least we didn’t lose. We take the positives – a point and a clean sheet.”
In games like this we think sometimes it’s best to lose, because it may get a positive reaction going forward.
In our last 5 league games we are unbeaten – big deal.
We have won one and drawn four. But that’s just 7 points from 5 games, and we’d much rather have won 3 and lost 2 – because we would have an extra 2 points now.
Being undefeated is just a pride thing, and it doesn’t relate to lots of points necessarily. Winning is what it’s all about.
So what we need is a winning streak – maybe we can start one on Friday night against Cardiff City.
And we’re pleased Chris was as mad as hell after the game – good for him – lots of Newcastle fans were too.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1They deserve a dressing down after Saturday’s result. We are starting to play the quality of football that will keep us in the championship. It is Ashleys cheap team. He does everything on the cheap from Tyneside to Thai-Side. Everything about the man is cheap. We have not invested in any players whose potential or skills will see us do well if promoted. And if the fat man imposes a wage cap we will not get that quality to come to NUFC. Deadline day? Does anybody think we will set the transfer pages alight today. We need a quality playmaker and scorer asap. And Ashley will get those on the cheap!

Smith AND Butt should NEVER be in the same team, and in my opinion Butt is past it now and should step aside, also Ryan Taylor and Danny Guthrie had a poor game.
On a positive note, the new lads had a cracking game, especially Van Aanholt, who looks like a quality young lad.
Also, nice to see Geremi off the wage bill, as long as he is COMPLETELY off the wage bill!!

Comment #7I see Simpson is back for the Cardiff match, so he would automatically go back in at right back for me.

Comment #8Thanks for asking Batty. It is still sinking in – and still have the inquest in May sometime. It seems never to be over. Anyway I keep on with work, and NUFC, and hating the fat man – that helps. Thanks again. We worked it out the other day – my other son spent more time working behind the bars of St James Park that Michael Owen spent plaing on the pitch. Howay the lads.

Comment #12Yes Ericles – your son has a point about Owen. Actually, I have started to wonder if Barton is the new Owen.

Comment #13Hughton you were the clown who picked an ultra negative team and didn’t react to them going a man down !!! Blame yourself for a gutless team selection and god awful tactics.
