Best Cannot Wait To Play For Newcastle

Leon Best has given his first interview to the Evening Chronicle today.

Leon Best – gives first interview

Best told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I will be wearing the No 20 shirt.”“The No 9 shirt would have been great – but that is a shirt at this club that has to be earned.”

“You can’t just show up, pick it up and throw it on your back.” “It’s a privilege that has to be earned. That’s absolutely right and correct.”

“If you wear the No 9 shirt at Newcastle it must be earned on achievement and nothing else.”

Chris Hughton seemed very pleased to bring in the Coventry City striker yesterday:

“What people forget is that Leon is a young player. He’s got the hunger to succeed and this is a fantastic opportunity for him.”

Next up for Newcastle is Cardiff City on Friday night at home, and the Newcastle  side has the chance to put on a good show for the home crowd.

That’s following last Saturday’s game, broadcast live on TV around the world, in which Newcastle looked toothless and couldn’t beat 10 man Leicester City, who played with great spirit and belief.

And it would seem like Leon just cannot wait for Friday night to arrive:

“It’s all to play for and we’ve got 19 games left to finish off this job.”

“What we’ve got is a big squad and we’ve got massive players throughout.”

“It will be a pleasure to play with them and I will be learning and raising my game.”

“Chris Hughton has done a fantastic job.”

“I am just delighted that he would like to have me in his team. I hope to go straight into the squad for Cardiff.”

“Now it is a case of training with the team and seeing what the plans are.”

It’s an important game for Newcastle, and they will need to show lots of mental strength.  The very last thing we want is for the side to start wobbling, when promotion is getting within sight.

The players need to stand up and be counted – and that will start this Friday night.

The lads say they are not buckling under the pressure – but they need to show it – as we learned last year talk is very cheap.

I’m excited to see how this lad does! Really think the new players will renew the hunger and competitiveness of our squad, relieving some of the mental fatigue.

Odd picture though Ed, was the first question in the interview “Leon, why are you hiding behind a bush?” !?

Ed – why have you done the same story twice? Kinda knackers the prospect of any banter on the subject.
