Chris Hughton has tonight praised the performance of Andy Carroll, who took Cardiff City apart in the first 15 minutes of tonight’s game.
Andy Carroll – started like a steam train tonight
Andy scored two goals in the first 15 minutes, and the other Newcastle goal was from a shot from Carroll that hit the post, and rebounded in off a Cardiff City player.
Quite a start for the 21 year-old Gateshead-born boy.
Chris Hughton talked about Carroll after the game tonight, in which Newcastle hammered Cardiff City 5-1:
“Potentially, he is number nine material. He’s a player who leads the line.”
“In some ways, he’s an old-fashioned centre-forward who has a prowess in the air, but he’s still developing his game and he has to continue to do that.”
“He has good football skills for a big man, but what he has to add to his game is goals, and he was able to do that tonight.”
And it wasn’t as if Cardiff City were not in-form, as they had won their last 4 league games, and were unbeaten in their last 8 games, and had also won some of those games very handily, including a 6-0 rout of Bristol City away from home.
But Newcastle United, gaining back some of their great pride as a club, blew them apart tonight in just 15 minutes, as the Magpies blazed to a 3-0 lead – it was unbelievable.
Chris Hughton, who must start to take some credit for this season, and also his signings of the last month, thought it was an eye-catching display by his Newcastle side tonight:
“There have been some really good performances.”
“I think you can take as much out of Sheffield United away 1-0 as you can tonight.”
“But from a footballing point of view, this is the most pleasing.”
Well, don’t expect Chris to get too carried away. 😀
But after all, that’s one of Chris’ great strengths as a manager – he keeps his feet firmly on the ground, and also keeps the Newcastle players’ feet firmly on the ground, and hardly lets them get carried away with their own success.
Chris and Colin will have the side ready again for next Tuesday’s tough challenge at Derby County.

Comment #6I reckon Joey Barton should coincide his foot rehab with listening to a little slice of Jazz Prog. Got to be on a winner.

Comment #10Aye was deff fun filled went with the new gf
Tore them apart, their RB #2 had a total mare.
Guthrie looked a bit shakey lyk, but it goes to show what happens when we have an attacking line up for a change.
25m? try doubling it at least

Comment #15Exactly what i thought when we were 4-0 up the team has balance, for first time that i can remember.
Carroll Top Draw, surely he is a starter for every game. Best looked totally nervous. Lovenkrands not his biggest fan but he took his goals with such skill.
La, la, la, lalala, la, lalala, la, geordies!!

Comment #22its crazy, ive always read the posts people have wrote on here. so i thought id break my duck and actually put something on here for a change. ive thought why were people being so negative and slitting there wrists. and the same people gave none of the new signings a chance. as some of the titles said, “williamson who” and all the others were no hopers, well i hope that the same people that have wrote on this blog take a long look at themselves, and stop being so hypocritical, and by the way yeah i went to the match tonight and all 6 of hughtons signings ran themselves into the deck and played good football, what we have bought is good honest professionals not superstar wanabe’s, look where that got us, bling bling oh yeah and relegated….instead of being so fickle and pulling newcastle and the players apart for the least little thing why dont you actually start to support newcastle united instead of slagging it off, if your going to keep on slagging it off it would be better for all parties concerned if you just go and support another team like sunderland, think ive said my piece for my first comment lol.. cheers guys

Good post mate.
I actually thought that Nolan had a very good game in front of the back four and now offers us an alternative solution to playing at Derby where we must play 4-4-2 and go for 3 points.
The back four tonight were superb, bearing in mind that they have not played together.

Spot on m8 it says alot when the new lads are giving more to the cause than the current lot. to be fair some of them need a rest, Nolan a prime example.

cheers man appreciate it, nolan was spot on, his best game for a while, both him and guthrie (and im not guthries biggest fan) totally dominated in midfield, probably guthries best game all season
i think the left back is going to be very special for chelsea, he is very very classy and is still only a kid, if we could get him on loan till the end of the season that would be fantastic, both williamson and one size were very steady at the back and simpson was back to his normal self.. i think we got a bargain for routledge though
routledge reminds me of a dyer esq, williamson reminds me of a woodgate very steady wins alot in the air and good on the floor, i know this is all based in the championship but thats where we are right now so thats all i can go off, charlietoon you will enjoy the goals they are all good, lovenkrands second is great

Comment #31newcastle mole, cheers man, it wasnt traumatic, just never really done the blogs before just normally just read them, your right about giving a few a rest, id keep the same team for the next game, leon best had a really good game, linked well and can actually hold the ball up and bring others into play, he is quick and he was unlucky not to get his first goal, for 650k i think we have done really well and another thing you can say about all the players that hughton signed they are all hungry and actually want to play for us

Comment #32I love Enrique but i think we should extend van Aanholt, till the end of the season.
1 problem we have come end of the season
Ameobi, Best, Carroll, Lovekrands, Ranger, Xisco
6 doesn’t go into 2 :/ Every one of them offer us something.

We must not get carried away, granted this was our best home performance by a country mile.
The interesting FACT was that CH fielded all 6 of his recent signings………..
Has the penny now dropped?
Every player last night give their all. Whether or not they are PL class who cares, we are not there yet.
The way to promotion is 4-4-2 both home and away.
Thought Fitz (One size had a very steady game)

A Great game lads! 2 weeks and i’m coming over for the Coventry and Preston game like! I hope we can keep a good run of form from now on! I’m impressed with Routledge like, sounded like he had a great game on the radio!
Gutsy move from Chris starting all 6 new signings! I just hope we dont have any injury worries in Smudge and Colo..
Howay the lads!

Routledge had a quiet first half has he appeared to be trying to hard.
However, in the second half he did the simple things which came to fruition.
We now have balance on both wings.
Van Aanholt by the way looks class.
