Chris Hughton – It Was Unbelievable

Chris Hughton, Colin Calderwood and the other Newcastle coaches must have been really delighted with the team, after last night’s great performance.

Peter Lovenkrands – another two great goals last night

And Chris Hughton is revealing today, he had wondered how the team would gel with all 6 new signings starting the game, and only Danny Simpson having had some experience playing for Newcastle.

It really worked out better than he could have ever imagined, with a thumping 5-1 win at home in front of just over 44,000 very happy fans.

After the game, Chris talked about the fantastic start made by the side:

“It was unbelievable and it was the dream start, beyond your wildest dreams probably,”

“You always want to start off in a positive fashion but to be three up after 15 minutes was superb.”

“You wonder how your team might gel with five new faces so to get that response is obviously very, very pleasing.”

“It’s won us the game, no doubt, but to carry on after half-time and add two more, when it would’ve been easy to sit back, was terrific.”

“It was a very enjoyable win and I am delighted with the lads.”

We would hope the lads will continue to play the bright attacking football we saw last night, but now we have to move on to our next game at Derby County – on Tuesday night.

Wonder what team Chris will choose for that game – he has some selection problems for sure – and that’s just great!!

They were so good last night, that I’ve even put my boots back in the cupboard, to the relief of my long suffering Geordie wife, Madeline.

The games are coming thick and fast now – almost two a week through the end of the season – so it’s a good job we have the squad to handle that now.

    Great performance and great result.

Was it a coincidence that both our club captains were missing last night and we became a free-flowing attacking team.

What a difference having a balanced team makes, not just a left sided team now, couldn’t have been a better game for all 6 new signings home debut.

    Well done the Toon.

See what happens when Smudge and butt are dropped. Attacking midfield for a change. Lets hope we dont see them together again. One or the other maybe when we’re away from home.
