West Brom And Nottingham Forest Both Win

It is still fairly tight at the top of the Coca Cola Championship after today’s games.

Nottingham Forest resumed their winning ways against Sheffield Wednesday at home winning a close game 2-1 against the Championship struggle. Wednesday are now in 20th position.

Dexter Blackstock scored both goals for Forest, and they are now 4 points behind Newcastle on 55 points with a game more played and an inferior goal difference.

And WBA are relentlessly grinding out the points, as they got through 1-0, away to Plymouth Argyle, never an easy fixture.

WBA got through with a 66th minute goal from Simon Cox, although Graeme Dorrans missed a penalty on 84 minutes, which is unusual for him.

The WBA left winger, Jereome Thomas was sent off after 90 minutes.

Swansea City, in 5th place, and who host Newcastle a week today,  beat Preston North End to climb to 45 points, which is level with their Welsh neighbors Cardiff City.

As we all know now, Cardiff went down 5-1 last at St. James’ Park to a rampant Newcastle United side, who fielded all six players signed in the January transfer window.

In other results Leicester had a good away 2-1 win at Blackpool, to continue their good form of last week against league leaders Newcastle.

Middlesbrough could only draw away to Ipswich, and are now 21 points behind the Magpies, after they had an excellent start to the season.

Ipswich cannot seem to break clear of the relegation zone and are still 4th bottom of the league, in the first season with Roy Keane as manager.

There will a full fixture list on Tuesday night in the Championship, when Newcastle visit Derby County away, WBA  host Scunthorpe United and Nottingham Forest  are at Coventry City.

In the Premier League today, Hull had a well deserved but unlikely win at home to Manchester City, following their midweek home draw with Chelsea.

Manchester  United thumped Portsmouth 5-0, and 10 man Liverpool beat Everton 1-0 to take over in 4th place.

Sunderland could only draw 1-1 at home to Wigan Athletic, and were a goal down at the break. The Black Cats are now in 13th place and  just 4 points above the 3rd bottom side, West Ham, with a poor goal difference.

Now we’ll see how Spurs handle Aston Villa in the remaining PL game today.

And the current top four in the Premier League are the same top that have been top four for years – how boring.

Comments very welcome.

The team against Cardiff is fine at home but away from home we need to grind out results.
A winning team away from home for Derby is:
Simpson Colo new guy Van something
    Taylor Butt Smith Nolan
    Ameobi Carroll

it might be the same top four but are you saying that its boring and we should not be in that boring league or that we should stay in a less boring league? In my opinion NUFC will never win the Prem but I would rather be in it to make up the numbers than win the Championship.

jimiley I could not disagree more. Your team is so off you are either taking the piss or fernando Cardiff thrashed Derby because they attacked, we whupped Cardiff because we attacked and now we should go to Derby and try and grind out a win??

I didn’t think was a NUFC fan out there that ever wanted to see Butt and Smith in the midfield together.

    Simpson….Williamson….Collo…VAN Wilder

The two strikers that got a brace last week get to start. They earned it. Routledge has two assists last week, done. I think we will go out hard again and they will be looking to counter. If we score when we go forward like last time there is not much to counter.

Hope Wayne the wizard scores one soon, I think we should start the same team as last game, maybe bring in smith for Guthrie as it Is away from home, just to shore things up in the middle.

Really glad with our new signings, good buy in williamson and Routledge especially, routledges got pace, quickfeet and creative which will hopefully take some of the pressure off Jonas who’s was the only player with a bit of creativity along with Guthrie.

What a great game. There were 2 lads behind me that came in 5mins late and had already missed 2 goals!

Hughton finally switched Guthrie to his real position in CM (he is maybe actually the best we have) and played everybody in their proper positions. Sounds simple but managers mess around with it far too often.

The Cardiff fans were very loud and impressive at the kick off and were in good voice when they won a corner after just a few seconds. I thought oh god here we go. But in truth it didnt take long to silence them, Carroll scoring a minute or so later. At 3-0 I thought it could be a rugby score but we did the sensible thing and played it about.

We finally look like a proper balanced team now with Routledge and the returing Simpson causing them all sorts of problems down the right. It made a welcome change from the ‘all left’ attacking we have seen this season. Routledge looks well in his prime and could be a class signing, even for the premiership.

Thats not to say that Van Aarnholt didnt have a good game at LB and the kid has obvious quality. One cross field pass to Routlege was sheer class.

Williamson was again solid and Hall looks a good loan move. Leon Best was slightly dissapointing but thats just maybe because Carroll and Lovenkrands were on fire. Best kept the ball well at times and was unlucky to get a yellow card for a sloppy challenge. All the potential is there however and I thing he will come good. He has more pace than Carroll and can play the target role also. I worry that he will hold back the development of Ranger though.

Same team at Derby please but with Lovenkrands in for Best.

well, what can i say,, we are top of the league after playing crap all year,
good platfornm to start the run in,,, now its time to really turn it on,, they looked good, well balanced,

i do think barton will be a good addition to this team,, routlidge reminds me of dyer,, wants the ball all the all the time , and is prepared to run at players, 😀

smith would not be in my team,, this is his level,, he carnt bring anything other than agression,, which i think we all could do that,,

so for me , ditch butt and smith, team will be better of without them,,
