Chris Hughton has named an unchanged side for the game at Derby tonight, rewarding the 11 starters against Cardiff City on Friday night, in what was Newcastle biggest win and best performance of the season.
Sounds good to us.
So some Newcastle players in good form will remain on the bench for tonight, including Peter Lovenkrands, and he is joined by captain Alan Smith, who returns from a thigh injury.
Leon Best will again partner Andy Carroll in attack, and Leon starts his first away game for the Magpies.
An almost brand new back four of Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, Fitz Hall and Patrick van Aanholt will again line-up in front of veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper.
And our new creative and impressive midfield of Wayne Routledge, Danny Guthrie, stand-in skipper Kevin Nolan and Jonas Gutierrez will continue tonight.
Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring) and Nicky Butt (thigh) remain sidelined due to injury.
This is a common-sense selection by Newcastle manager Chris Hughton – and the lads have another chance to send the Newcastle fans into raptures.
We hope they do.
For those readers who have been posting comments today saying “don’t change a winning side” – Chris must have been reading them. 😀
