Titus Bramble To Return To Newcastle?

News in the Sun this morning that Newcastle United are planning a swoop in the summer for former player Titus Bramble – you’ve got to be kidding.

Titus Bramble – return to Newcastle?

Not surprisingly Chris Hughton already has his recruitment plans in place should Newcastle get promotion this season.

Even following last night’s debacle at Derby County, Newcastle are still favorites to get back into the Premier League.

Hughton is keen on both Bramble and his team-mate, 24 year-old midfielder  Ben Wason, who would be a decent acquisition.

5′ 10″ midfielder Watson joined Wigan from Crystal Palace for £2M in January last year but has made just 13 appearances  for them.

He made 187 appearances for Crystal  Palace with 20 goals, but his games at Wigan have been restricted, and he went out on loan to QPR this season.

We’re not sure bringing back Titus Bramble would be welcomed by Newcastle fans, since it seems like a step back, but Ben Watson could be a good signing, if we could get him at a decent price.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

There’s a lot in the papers today. According to the Mirror, Guthrie is on £4,000 a week after being forced to reveal how much he earned in court for a recent speeding offence.

Now consider Smith and Barton are on over £50k per week, and Colo’s £80k after bonuses.

HA, Bramble? no thanks, i’d rather have Shola playing in the centre of defence! Kadars better than Bramble anyway.

I don’t think Bramble would want to come back. He can’t handle 50,000 people on his back, he’s done ok at Wigan but only because my 9 year lads games get a bigger crowd than Wigan

i always said and always will. as someone during that era who travelled to all games home and away, Titus was a very good defender who has the odd shocking moment, however his moments were nowhere near as frequent as people think. there were matches, quite alot of matches where he was clear man of the match. a very stong tackler of the ball with superb distribution, he could chip in with a few goals as well. granted his mistakes were shocking but whenever they happened the press picked up on every single one and fans jumped on the band wagon. i distinctly remember one home game, he was absolutely flawless and on around 70 mins he sliced a clerance, no danger came of it but all the fans and the press were talking about was titus’s slice and not about how well he played. most fans really p~~s me off when it comes to Titus. He was a very good defender ruined by the lack of confidence the media, and his own fans for that matter, had in him. it is also worth mentionong he is still a premiership defender, somehwere we are not!

Vivadavidkelly.I totally agree with you.Mybrother lives in Wigan so I’ve seen Bramble play a few times when visiting ,and at times he has been brilliant against some of the Premierships finest. Before people start bad mouthing him, think how well some of our current defenders coped when they where in the premiership.

    Shitus Shambles!!

His days at the toon are long gone. He has moved on and so have we. I dont think he would be an improvement on what we have at the club now, so whats the point??

Graeme – “he has moved on and so have we” where have we moved on to exactly. we have only moved in one direction and it certainly isnt up. i’m not saying sign him back but to suggest he wouldnt be an improvement is odd as you have nothing to base that on. you name one full bad game he had and i will name 5 outstanding performances he had. Titus was never a leader – never will be. he was your classic number 6 centre half. needed the leader along side him (ie woodgate) when he was paired with o’brien or boumsong for example he inevitably carried the can for everyone. woodgate was immense for newcastle, best defender i have ever seen in a black and whte shirt, but there were several games where i would have given bramble better marks. im not suggesting he was better than woodget, but in my opinion a good defender ruined by unfair critisism.

N’zogbia was everything that was wrong with nufc in the past. good player no doubt but petulent, believed his own hype, nothing but a trouble maker, the one good thing about us getting relegated is we are starting to build a team – a team which probably wont be good enough to compete in the prem at present but a team all the same. we, quite rightly are moving away from the 11 individuals on the pitch which pretty much ruined newcastle. full of players who never talked only cared about themselves. N’zogbia epitomised this. i agree he has ability but good riddance i say

sure vividavidkelly – he was a decent player on ability alone.

I am liking the team we are building up now, concentrating more on people who want to be here and want to play rather than superstars is definately the way forward IMO.

you laugh but I’d have him back in a flash…

at the start of the season I picked a prem fantasy team, neamed it “If only we’d kept…”

    Given
    Carr, Bramble, Beye, Bassong, Hughes
    N’Zogbia, Parker, Milner, Duff
    Bellamy

I’d take any of them back!

I agree with many of the comments that Bramble is a decent player whose gaffes were vastly overstated. Give me Bramble rather than 80K a week Colo. At least he has pace. we’ve moved backwards and he is playing decent football in the Prem. Why would he want to come back to a club which will not pay 2 mil for Beckford or Moses? We are a caricature of a great club and it is somewhat embarrassing. Good on you fat man Mike A.

Rubbish to anybody who say Bramble was a good player for us. He was awfull!

There’s no two ways about it. He cost us more points than he saved us. Fact.

So yeah, he’s a better defender than you or i. But come on, some of his defending was just cringe worthy. It wasn’t the right time for him, and he needed somebody to guide him. He has that now and all the best to him.

Parker… Now there’s a guy we should have done anything to keep hold of.

I totally agree with you Tramp. There was so many games he cost us vital points and yes the press picked up on them as they happened so often which should not happen when ur paying someone 20 or 30 plus thousand a week to put on the famous black n white jersey.
Everyone makes mistakes yes i know but not as much as Shambles.
But the thing that used to infuriate me the most is that on most Sat nights i would see him in Norwich drinking n partying with his friends in the v.i.p lounge after making some costly mistakes that same day playing for the toon then he would drive all the way down to Norwich to meet his ex Ipswich mates i guess n have plenty of fun laughing n joking without a care in the world when he should be thinking of how he is gonna try cut this crazy stupid costly mistakes out of his game!!!!
He had the potential at Ipswich but its this costly mistakes that happen too much!
And this sums it all up really one early sunday morning driving back up to Newcastle from Norwich after one of his sat nights partying he crashed his pimped up range rover into a wall and the reason he said he crashed not cause of the late night b4 partying n drinking oh no Bramble said it was a “SUDDEN LACK OF CONCENTRATION”………..Enough said i think!!!

what a load of rubbish, typical of someone jumping on the bandwagon. i bet you cant think of more than 2 of his mistakes that led to actual goals.thts because in reality very few did. biggest myth ever about bramble being terrible. i’m not saying he is england class but he is a premiership player and deservedly so.

take it your an armchair fan then yeah? well done you found a clip, like i said he made mistakes but his good games out wieghed them. remember his performance in the san siro? remember his winning goal in a man of the match perfomace against chelsea which got us european football for the following season? remember how he had ballack almost in tears through his very tough tackilng? remember him having both viduka and jimmy floyd in his back pocket in the same game, prompting many of the national press to tip him for future england honours? probably not as you were too busy being a sheep and following the pack to notice these things. like i said its alot easire to appriciate these things if you actually go to the match rather than base your opinions on what idiots feed you on youtube or sky sports news. let me guess, you were part of the bedsheet brigade who stood otside sjp the day “king kev” walked out on us again? one of the idiotic bafoons who give proper newcastle fans a bad name, basing thier opinions on hear say rather than forming thier own. suppose you think kevin nolan should be in the england squad coz he has scored a few goals? or that we should be signing players like ronaldo and messi, totally clouded in the fact that we are a second tier team. to say we wouldnt have bramble back is a total insult to him. maybe he doesnt want to come back as he is happy in the premiership?

Haha alright calm down dont get your knickers in a twist its called an opinion everyone is intitled to it and if u think paying millions to have bramble back at newcastle n pay him thousands upson thousands everyweek thenm fine thats what u think.
And no im not an armchair fan i get to as many games i can but leaving in Sweden now its not so easy but i was basing my judgement on games i watched him in at the games i went to home n away n the games i watched on telly he made too many mistakes full stop n i dont think we need him.And no too all the other things u said im not 5 years old!!!This is just my opionion on one ex newcastle player who i think does not deserve to wear the black n white jersey again i never said anything about nolan or keegan or messi n all that other stuff ur on about??
P.S. Your not Bramble himself are u…… ;O)

ha ha no im not titus, and like i said before i dont think we should sign him back for a number of reasons. it just really annoys me when people straight away start with the bramble is s**t nonsense, because he is a very good defender, hence why he is still playing in the prem and hence why other premiership teams are after him. of course you are allowed you opinion but another myth was that bramble was on huge money. titus bramble only signed one contract at newcastle and that was when he signed from ipswich in 2002 as a 21 year ols. he would have been on no more than 10k per week and i would be suprised if he was on that. that comes from charlie woods who was our scout at the time, who brokered the deal. still alot of money compared to the average man on the street but nothing compared to many of that era and after his existance at the club. thats 10% of colos current wage by the way!

Thanks to David Kelly for saving me a lot of typing. Good old Titus would have to be clinically insane to come back to SJP. The place has been a graveyard for talent. Most of the players ridiculed and forced out of the club by fools with names like bozjacko and tramp are now above us in the league and a decent number playing successfully in big cup. Now that actually is a FACT.
