Newcastle manager Chris Hughton makes three changes to the side which was beaten at Derby County 3-0 during the week, for the tough game at Swansea City today.
Mike Williamson, Jonas Gutierrez and Leon Best are not in the starting lin-up, and Fabricio Coloccini, Alan Smith and Peter Lovenkrands come into the side.
It would appear that Newcastle, rather surprisingly, may keep their 4-4-2 formation, with Lovenkrands up front, but of course Peter could play on the left wing ina 4-5-1 formation, with only Andy Carroll up front.
Coloccini is back from his hamstring injury, and surprisingly partners Fitz Hall at the centre of the defense – we had expected Mike Williamson to have started with Fabricio today.
Danny Simpson and Patrick van Aanholt continue to occupy the full-back positions, so Danny is fit following his slight hamstring strain on Tuesday night – that’s good.
Alan Smith is back in the starting line-up, and Wayne Routledge, Danny Guthrie and Kevin Nolan complete the Newcastle midfield.
And we’re pleased that Peter Lovenkrands comes in to start with Andy Carroll up front – hit the back of the net Peter!.
Both Jonas Gutierrez and Shola Ameobi miss out because of minor injuries.

Comment #50This is a disgrace, we can’t pass, we can’t defend and we can’t more importantly score. We aren’t playing as a team and this performance has so clearly indicated how much we miss the Jonas-Enrique combo… I am PISSED OFF!!!!

Comment #53I have said it before and I’ll say it again, Chris Hughton HAS to rest Nolan for a few games- he just looks completely burnt out and you can’t expect him to play every game!

Comment #56why let that corner go out? why not keep it in, play it down the wing, catch them out of position?
i’m rapidly thinking hughton is not much more than just a good coach

Comment #61FFS stop being stupid! This is Hughton’s FIRST ever managerial job, of course he won’t be able to get it right all the time! I can guarantee you all that if our LEGEND Shearer was still in charge in the same position we would just say, its a lack of experience and that he has done really well. Look at the bigger picture guys, this is Chris’s first ever managerial job as I previously said, we are joint top of the Championship in February. He has done a fantastic job and is still learning… People said he was too defensive against Leicester (me included) so the next away match he goes attacking like we all wanted and we get thrashed 3-0. Yes he has made mistakes although you can’t all start saying Hughton’s just not good enough- wait till the end of the season and THEN pass a judgement, but till then support Hughton and the team till the end like use Geordies do best!
RANT OVER! 😀

Comment #70Just seen a passage of play which sums up our display and desire:
The old leggy warhorse Nolan has time and space and passes to a Swansea player. As the ball bounces back to him he has time to meet the ball, but the spritly and excellent Pratley chases him down and wins possession !
Oh we’ve scored! 1st on target and in.
Still we have been truely outclassed!

Comment #71Even though we just scored, we deserve to be 3-0 down. One of the worst performances I have seen from any team in a long time. Gutrie is a horrible player. Smith, Nolan, Carrol, Simpson all playing terrible!!! The formation and the players playing in it is all wrong!!

Comment #75As a NUFC fan i want nothing more than promotion, but as an English football fan would it be a good thing for NUFC to get promoted????
Many people say the PL is the best in the world. we have teams like Arsenal, Spurs and at times Man U who can play great looking football. However many teams in the PL particularly this season are ugly footballing teams, Blackburn, Bolton, Everton, Liverpool, Stoke and Sunderland to name the worst offenders. Even champions elect Chelsea play ugly football more times than i would like to see.
So to the promotion to the PL this season, would a Newcastle United benefit the PL and its world wide reputation or would the likes of WBA, Swansea and Forest be better representatives for the beautiful game?
Take your black ‘n’ white glasses off when answering the question!

Comment #78Routledge was crap, he just runs into trouble at every opportunity.
As for the idiot that says Guthrie is a horrible player, open your eyes man. When he got moved into his favourite position (CM) he made a huge difference. He was the one to win the ball and play it to Best who crossed for the goal.
Hughton made more mistakes today, but that goal papers over the cracks. A point there is a good result, but it was a terrible performance.

Comment #80Not going to lie, since I saw him at Southampton I was impressed but Nathan Dyer is a useful little player, wouldn’t mind him in our team/squad! But there we go, playing atrociously and coming out with a point, not as bad as it could have been!
