It was a surprise when Jonas Gutierrez was left out of the team on Saturday.
Jonas Gutierrez – back on Wednesday
It turns our that Chris Hughton left Jonas out as a precaution, since Jonas had a thigh injury, but the Argentine left winger is expected back in Newcastle United’s starting line-up against Coventry City on Wednesday night at St. James’ Park.
But Shola Ameobi, who has always been injury prone, is likely to miss out again because of his hamstring injury.
Newcastle missed the Argentine’s runs on the left wing, and Newcastle were completely outplayed on Saturday afternoon, something you don’t see too often this season.
Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Leaving Jonas out was a precaution as he’s been carrying something a thigh problem, and we could have made it worse.”
“Shola’s got a slight hamstring injury.” “Jonas will be involved on Wednesday night, but I don’t think Shola will.”
Our next two games are getting to be very important.
Both are at home and against middle of the table teams, so we should be able to get 6 points and in fact we have to go all out for the two wins.
If we start dropping points at home, things will not look as bright.
But the lads have done very well to reach this point int he season still at the top, and we cannot fail now.
Look for Newcastle to start Wednesday’s game like the proverbial steam train – anything less will not be good enough.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #1Jonas is looking like a key player for us this season, but in terms of us being able to pick up 6 points from the next 2 games, well that remains to be seen. Frankly, I think we have been sussed now, and CH does not seem to have a plan B. Also our forwards seem to have been found wanting of late, I think when somebody mentioned on another thread that we need a player who can play with his back to the goal up front the nail was hit on the head. Somebody should make Andy Carroll watch some Alan Shearer DVD’s, otherwise, sell him.

Comment #2Jonas is an important player for us but that statement underlines how far we have fallen. Jonas is a winger who cannot cross and cannot score. Not much of a winger then!!!
He is a regular for Argentinia and so makes me believe that England should beat Argentinia in the World Cup

Comment #3Yes Jonas being back will bring a little bit of attacking ability back to our side, although without his partner Jose, he does not look half as effective.
Good point jimiley, re Jonas and his crosses / lack of goals.
Jose is the player we are missing – he is the lynchpin of our team, strong in defence and combines well to attack down our left.
I would not underestimate Coventry or Preston either especially with the way we are playing.
Fergie snr. is doing Fergie jnr. favours with loan players and is never away from the North End ground – smacks of a bit of nepotism to me.

Comment #4Tbh i feel sory for our strikers they only work from scraps coz our midfield lacks creativity. The wingers dont look to bad at times but the central mid is to defensive and seem to be lacking confidence or drive one of the 2

Comment #5Am i the only person who thinks Jonas should play as A Central Midfielder!!!!!!!!!! He cant cross, he can run past defender for joke, so why isnt he used as Central attackiong midfielder.

Comment #6We don’t have anyone to play on the wing, and Jonas is our best option there. We have loads of CMs, even though most are crap.

Routledge has looked very creative since signing for us, Jonas has now got 9 assists for us this season and ryan taylor had a few until Hughton forgot about him. Hopefully when Bartons back he can replace Guthrie and Nolan then we will have 3 creative midfielders and one defensive midfielder in Smith.
Plus if Carroll could learn to control the ball properly and pass he would get more goals.
