Injured Routledge Replaced By Smith?

There’s a real surprise with the team selection today as Chris Hughton has had to replace the injured Wayne Routledge, and he has brought in Alan Smith.

Wayne has a calf injury.

But that seems a defensive move, and why wasn’t Frenchman Fabrice Pancrate given a chance out on the right wing?

We really hope that Danny Guthrie isn’t played out there with Nolan and Smith in midfield – that would be a bad move – but we think that’s what will happen.

Danny is not a winger.

Andy Carroll again starts up front and let’s hope he can add to his 6 goals in the last 7 games.

Young Nile Ranger is on the bench and we hope he gets a run-out in the second half – and scores!

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Fabricio Coloccini, Patrick van Aanholt, Danny Guthrie, Alan Smith (c), Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands, Andy Carroll

Subs: Michael Hart, Darren Carter, Liam Chilvers, Keith Treacy, Wayne Henderson, Stephen Elliott, Neil Mellor

Sorry Ed but it’s pretty obvious that Smith and Nolan will indeed be in the middle therefore pushing Guthrie to his unfavoured right
should have left Guthrie in the middle and played Pancrate on wing – i despair about hughtons tactics

Smith coming back for today’s game is not a surprise; only hope the injury to Routledge is not serious.

We should beat PNE with that team and let’s hope young Ranger comes off the bench in the second half……

The man missing must be Mark Willianson, because Fitz Hall is on the bench.

What a joke, could put Pancrate on like you say but Smith fgs!

Hope the injury’s not serious. Notice that’s another injury which must have happened in training like STaylor’s.

i suppose this one isn’t really CH’s fault, and at least guthrie is on the right and not the left, where he is very uncomfortable and often gives the ball away. I agree i’d rather have seen pan-cake on the right wing though

It all depends how narrow we play on the right side of the pitch. I’d sooner have Guthrie on the right with freedom to move inside than Pancrate on!

Oh wow, he’s going to play Guthrie out wide again? Does he not learn, THAT DOESN’T WORK.

Smith and Nolan in the middle, no creativity there then, and Smith will have to do all the running after just coming back from injury.

Why not give Pancrate or Ryan Taylor a chance out wide? Considering that they are actually wide players and Guthrie ISN’T.

    Madness.

    2-0 win.
