Three of Newcastle’s players have had International call-ups today.
Leon Best – called up by Ireland
Leon Best has been called up by Ireland in the squad announced to face Brazil in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium on March 2nd.
And as we reported earlier today, Jonas Gutierrez is included in the Argentine squad to face Germany on March 3rd in Munich.
Maradona has chosen European based players for this game, but our own Fabricio Coloccini is not included.
The Argentinians recently beat Costa Rica 3-2 and Jamaica 2-1 with teams composed mainly of home based players out of Argentina.
Finally Andy Carroll is included in a strong England U-21 squad to face group leaders Greece in their key UEFA European Championship qualifier at The Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster, next Wednesday evening.

Comment #2Has any reason been given as to why Colo hasn’t made the squad?
I know he was out injured for a couple of weeks but he’s back now & we’ve won both games & only let in one goal since his return, so it seems strange he’s not included in the Argie squad!!

Comment #4Visually part of his parentage at first glance does not appear to be Irish but obviously somewhere down the line some of it is.
I personally am English, Spanish, Scottish, Irish, having a grand parent from each of these origins, so had I been a good enough athlete I could have competed for any one of four countries.
So what has colour have to do with it?
Best of luck to the lad with the start of his international career and it can only benefit us as his play gets better.
