Andy Carroll scored his 11th goal of the season when he headed home Danny Guthrie’s corner after 50 minutes, and it was a great time for Newcastle to get their second goal.
Andy Carroll – 11th goal of the season on Saturday
And the 6’4″ Andy scored in spite of American Jay DeMerit getting his hands fully in Andy’s face.
Andy talked about the goal:
“It’s something we’ve been working on in training with Danny’s deliveries,” “For my goal I made the run to the near post and it was a great ball, all I had to do was get my head on it.”
“I’d managed to shake off the defender and I had his hands in my face when I scored. It was an important time to score just after half-time and gave us a cushion.”
“The first goal came from Danny’s cross as well and, after Kevin Nolan has flicked it on, I’ve managed to turn it back across goal for Colo.”
“It was a great start and I thought we were in control after that and dominated the game.”
“I’m doing well and I’m loving every minute at the moment.” “I’m training well and getting in the team, we’re winning and I’m scoring goals so it’s all good.”
“I’m confident that I’m going to score every time I play and this is the best run of my career so far.” “I just can’t wait for the next games to come around because when you’re in good form you just want more goals and more wins.”
There’s little doubt the Gateshead born England U21 striker has made great strides this season under Chris Hughton, and now seems to be Newcastle’s top striker.
He’s always been a good player but both Andy and Newcastle are now making use of the lad’s great heading ability to actually score goals.
Andy is a handful for any defense these days, and we expect him to be given the number 9 Newcastle shirt next season.
We also have to hope that some of our other younger players like Tamas Kadar, Haris Vuckic and Nile Ranger will continue to make good progress too, and hope they they will also be challenging soon for a first team spot.
We love it.
