Kevin Nolan – It Was Only Handbags

Newcastle’s midfielder Kevin Nolan put in another  solid performance on Saturday, and the Liverpool-born player talked after the game.

Kevin Nolan – it was only handbags

Kevin was naturally asked about the mini altercation between Mike Williamson and captain Alan Smith that occurred following Watford’s injury time goal.

Certainly Kevin seemed completely unconcerned and even tried to explain things:

“There was a bit of handbags at the end but you are going to get that,”

“Willo (Williamson) has headed the ball down and it has gone right to one of their players and no one was around him. Alan had a pop but he didn’t realize we were marking the other seven behind him. It was handbags and we just got on with it.”

“We always have one of them – I think it is nice and healthy to make sure everyone knows their jobs and we don’t put a foot wrong.”

“There was a lot of character shown and that is probably something we didn’t have in abundance last year. This year we have stuck together and worked so hard to get where we are.”

“We are not going to stop working hard till we get what we want. There are a lot of good sides around us and we can’t afford to rest on our laurels.”

“We have to make sure what we have done at the start of the season and in the middle of the season, we are doing at the end of the season.”

Alan Smith and Kevin Nolan are just two of the players who have stepped up this season, and committed not only to the club, but in getting  Newcastle United back where they belong – the Premier League.

And it’s comforting to know that should we indeed be promoted, the fans will see a lot more fight from our players than we witnessed last season, that’s for sure.

There were far too many wimps in the side then.

It seems that Newcastle got rid of the right players in the summer, and those who remain are those who wanted to stay and fight.

It certainly seems to make a big difference.

Comments always welcome.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Simpson and I think he has a bright future, but I really wish Beye was one of the players who “wanted” to stay last season.

I never heard him come him out and say he wanted to leave but he would have been on good wages and only had one year left so I think it was a good deal.
